Poll: 71% shun GOP handling of debt crisis
CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.

Americans are unimpressed with their political leaders' handling of the debt ceiling crisis, with a new CBS News poll showing a majority disapprove of all the involved parties' conduct, but Republicans in Congress fare the worst, with just 21 percent backing their resistance to raising taxes.

President Obama earned the most generous approval ratings for his handling of the weeks-old negotiations, but still more people said they disapproved (48 percent) than approved (43 percent) of what he has done and said.

1. I remember George W. Bush*'s approval bottoming out around 26%, so this means
that nearly everyone who isn't a hardcore Republican disapproves. I'm hoping that there isn't much of a certain percentage in there that represents the Republican version of the Fire Dog Lake contingent, who are conservative but still disapprove of everything the Republicans do for not being conservative enough.

2. EXCELLENT - the Tide has turned
I'll probably get slammed for this BUT.....

The previous polling was showing the exact opposite and that a Majority of Americans trusted the GOP/TeaFarty better in handling the Debt/Deficit Crisis. You can say what you want about Obama but if this is indeed multi-level chess, the polls are indicating Check Mate at a very crucial time

4. The House GOP has amply demonstrated
That the don't give a tinker's damn about the will of the people. And thanks to the wonders of gerrymandering, they don't have to worry about their jobs. So all this really does is give Obama a talking point for the night he has to go on national TV and explain why the Department of Education is now mandating Mandarin in all public schools.

There does not appear to be a cure short of total disaster.
