Rick Perry Walks Back Statement That He Feels 'Called' to Run

In a press conference with Texas reporters today, Gov. Rick Perry walked back comments he made to the Des Moines Register in which he said he feels “called” to run for the presidency.

“There’s a lot of different ways to be called. My mother may call me for dinner, you know, my friends may call me for something. There are people calling from all across this country, into either me directly or people that they know and saying man we wish you’d consider doing this,” Perry said as reported by the Austin American Statesman.

When asked if this meant there were no religious overtones to his “called” statement, Perry insisted he’s a man of faith who seeks signs from God in his decisions.

Should go over well with his base.

obviously he's messing with them. I'd like somebody to ask the question of all these characters in a debate: "If God has called you to run for President, and he's also called your opponents, how do we know that it's really you he wants?"
