Bullet that killed man doesn't match SFPD weapon
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There are new developments in the shooting of a man by San Francisco police officers in the Bayview district.

A medical examiner said the bullet that killed 19-year-old Kenneth Harding is "not consistent with a bullet fired from a service revolver of the San Francisco Police Department," implying that Harding may have killed himself with his own gun.

A weapon recovered from a parolee's house following the Bayview District shooting also does not match the bullet that killed Harding. That weapon was said to have been removed at the scene of the crime shortly after the shooting, and was recovered after officers reviewed video published to the website YouTube.

11. If what I read about the victim's past- it seems possible. Won't go as far as probable.

3. It is possible. He may have panicked since I thought I heard he had some outstanding warrants. Of
course the big question is do they have the weapon, and can it be identified as the victims?

4. The SFPD still carries revolvers?
I find that hard to believe.

Further, I wonder what they mean by "not consistent." Wrong caliber? Different number of lands and grooves?

What exactly is not consistent?

8. No, theres a video on Liveleak shot moments after the shooting.
The police are all carrying automatics.

I just looked it up anyway. The official sidearm for the SFPD is the Sig 9mm, but they apparently still have a large number of older Beretta .40's in service as well. I suppose that's what they meant when they said that the .380 bullet wasn't "consistent" with their weapons.

6. It should be pretty easy to determine whether he shot himself based on the entry wound.
There should be powder burns around the entry wound, etc. The angle of entry should be a dead giveaway too.

7. Of course they're hoping we've never heard of a "Throwdown Piece".
It's the one in the ankle holster for when you don't want to deal with Internal Affairs...

10. There were civilian witnesses to the shooting. They said he was armed.
One of the videos shot by the bystanders also begins only seconds after the shooting ended, and while the police were still approaching his body. The gun was already present at that point.

9. This info is dated. They're now openly saying that he shot himself.
They still haven't found his weapon, but he was apparently shot twice. He has a .40 bullet wound to his leg, and a .380 bullet wound that entered his neck and travelled upward into his skull. That was the bullet that killed him. There's also powder residue on his hands. The bullet tracker system also recorded three different guns firing, but there were only two officers after him. The two videos shot by bystanders clearly show the gun by his body.

At this point, it sounds like the only real question is whether he accidentally squeezed off a round and shot himself while he was running, or whether he actually committed suicide (the guy was a convicted child rapist who was wanted for a Washington state murder, and was facing serious prison time).

12. They haven't found his gun?
What, did he shoot himself in the brain, and then take a few minutes to hide it?

13. Someone apparently removed a weapon from the scene...as the article says
A weapon recovered from a parolee's house following the Bayview District shooting also does not match the bullet that killed Harding. That weapon was said to have been removed at the scene of the crime shortly after the shooting, and was recovered after officers reviewed video published to the website YouTube. Police say they are still searching for that weapon.
