Norway terror attack completely political......
Daily Kos's David Waldman I think analyzed the motives of the Norway gunman exactly in the following article:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/07/23/997883/-Norway-attacker-was-a-political-Terminator?via=blog_1

Some quotes:

"See, the "camp" event is really more akin to a political retreat and training, it seems. It's an annual event of Norway's "Worker's Youth League," (in Norwegian, the Arbeidaranes Ungdomsfylking, or AUF), which is itself essentially the youth arm of the country's ruling Labour Party. And by "youth arm," I really mean something like a "farm team," to use a sports analogy."

"And we're in need of analogies here, because we don't really have anything like this here in the United States, which also makes it difficult to appreciate the scale of the potential losses. Eighty or more lives taken translates anywhere, of course. Eighty or more young people, all the more. But it's more than that. It's 80 or more of the country's most politically engaged young people, self-selected from the ranks of a single political party. In a country of just 4.9 million, that's an enormous loss."

So it seems this guy was out to wipe out as many of Norway's future liberal leaders as possible at that camp. This was no random attack.

2. Not to make light of the loss of life, which is a terrible tragedy and incomprehensible ...
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 04:57 AM by Tx4obama

but I just wanted to add that there were over 700 people at the camp.
Although the gunman tried to 'eliminate' the 'liberal' youth, I think that they will grow stronger, and more determined, and be even more powerful in the future due to the horrific act that occurred.

5. so, it had absolutely nothing to do with him being a complete fucking nutjob then?
because this was obviously the act of a sane person, not a psychopath. Just Like Charlie Manson and his crew for example.

I've read his "manifesto" and he certainly is a deranged individual, but even crazy people have motivations, and I believe his was the perceived threat from "multiculturalism" and accompanying liberalism. Now, a normal person with that socio/political orientation would get involved politically, start a web site, whatever. A crazy person decides it's OK to go and take out as much of the opposition as possible with a gun and a bomb.

8. Yes, clearly this psychopath only coincidentally killed mostly only members of the liberal party.
Psychopaths have political opinions, too. What's your point?

12. Oh, he's a "complete fucking nutjob" but
“This may be the act of a lone, mad, paranoid individual,” said Hajo Funke, a political scientist at the Free University in Berlin who studies rightist extremism, referring to the right-wing fundamentalist Christian charged in connection with the killings, “but the far-right milieu creates an atmosphere that can lead such people down that path of violence.”

15. Aimed at liberal support for multiculturalism. Many victims were kids of Asian/African immigrants.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/24/world/europe/24island.html?_r=1&hp

The police have identified the suspect as Anders Behring Breivik, who in his writings has portrayed himself as a modern knight, charged with driving out Islam and immigrants and the political correctness that he said had been wrongly invited into Norway and was thriving there.

The campers at Utoya appeared to be the embodiment of his hatred. Organized by the youth wing of the ruling Labor Party, the camp has become a kind of multicultural incubator in recent years. Many of the victims in Friday’s shooting were the children of immigrants from Africa and Asia who have begun to stake out a greater role for themselves in Norwegian society.

Khamshajiny Gunaratnam, 23, a camp member, was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Norway when she was 3. She is dark-skinned, wears a nose stud and speaks both Norwegian and English in seemingly native accents.

She described a Norway that was increasingly divided along class and ethnic lines, and said there was a growing hostility toward people who were not ethnically Norwegian, even those born in the country. But she saw the camp on Utoya as a sanctuary, a promise of a better country. “It was for me the safest place in the world,” she said.

Given his hatred of Muslim immigrants, it must have been satisfying that his attack at the island not only targeted immigrant children of color but the Norwegian youth who accepted and helped empower them.
