UK official attacks "right wing nutters" in the United States

via the Guardian UK:

Business Secretary Vince Cable has launched an extraordinary attack on "right wing nutters" in the US who are threatening to cripple the world economy.

Mr Cable said the row over whether to raise the American government's debt ceiling was a more serious crisis than the eurozone's problems.

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr show, he also suggested the Bank of England may have to engage in more quantitative easing - effectively printing money - as growth stalls.

Mr Cable said the deal struck in Europe last week to bail out countries such as Greece and Ireland had been a "significant step forward", without solving the fundamental issues. .................(more)

1. He is 100% correct
Glad to see him call them nutters publicly. He of course was in a big fight with the Cons over Murdoch's criminality. I don't see how the coalition government survives much longer.

Some want to see a crash of financial establishment or are so ignorant they approach being anarchists.

to cost hundreds of billions of dollars. The "war/massacre" wasn't paid for and they couldn't wait to give the perp the go ahead.

The manufactured "debt ceiling crisis" won't happen. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and lots of other programs for the most vulnerable will have to be cut to prevent the teabaggers from crashing the world, but a deal will be made. The right-wing nutters are making a lot of threats because no one stands up to them, and they almost always get their way, which they will in this case too.

9. They don't have to be cut unless you are saying that we must
because it is hostage taking.

10. They don't have to be cut, but they will be
the president offered them up before the negotiation began, and, given his history as an appeaser/accomplice, we will end up losing even more once the teabaggers threaten hold their collective breath.

11. And when they get their way in this case it will be Game Over
If they can succeed in making us cut Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid now, there will be no end to it. They will come back, again and again, to move these "footballs", now put in play, further down the field in their preferred direction. They will impose government by "caps", and automatic self-executing clauses, and Super Gangs Of Six.

I don't know what stops this terrorist madness, but it's not the Democratic Party as we know it in its post-Reagan, pro-corporate incarnation.

15. He is right there!
And by the way, Cable is *not* a left-winger by most standards; he is a moderate LibDem, who serves in a Tory-dominated Cabinet.

Of course, the fact that his dislike of Murdoch has been thoroughly vindicated may be making him a bit bolder!
