McConnell's "Super Congress" idea = A way to "get around" the Teabagger House
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 10:00 AM by emulatorloo
It is a horrible idea. But what it proves to me is that Boehner has no control over the House Members anymore, and the teabaggers are ready to default.

'Super Congress': Debt Ceiling Negotiators Aim To Create New Legislative Body

Many DU'er are reading this as a ploy to create Republican Fascism. That could indeed be the result.

However i think the most of the current motivation is to get around the TRUE BELIEVERS who are more than willing to plunge the US into an Economic Depression.

This is a problem of the Republican's making. McConnell. Boenher, and all the Republican Leadership cultivated and promoted the tea party. They fed this monster, thinking they could use it and keep it under control.

1. There's only one solution.
Beat the shit out of the teabaggers next year. Even if it is by adult Republicans in the gerrymandered districts.

It is mandatory.

11. I've been wondering how many seats they will lose in the next election
When dems take back seats, will republicants still talk about "what the people want"?

15. Sorry, the Republicans ARE the 'teabaggers' . Same Party.
This theory that there are 'adult Republicans' is nonsense to me as a Democrat. Do you see any 'adult Republicans' calling out their less adult fellows? Are they distancing themselves from the tea? Are they, as they certainly could do, opposing the 'non adults' in their own Party, in any way? No, they are not. And thus, they have no 'adults'.

16. You're probably right.
Do you have any better ideas to get around the gerrymandered districts?

Obviously the ideal goal would be for the Democrats to retake the House, which is possible if we stop fighting with each other and work harder than we ever have to get it done.

24. Rather than pretend I have a bunch of good ideas, let me just
point out again that the last cycle was not a national loss. It was regional. Those who live in the areas that lost like to say 'all over the country' and 'across the nation' but the entire West Coast, among other areas, did not lose a Democratic seat. It is not across the nation if it does not go coast to coast. I suggest that looking to the places where Democrats won might lead to some good ideas that are already in practice. Repeating what failed last time is probably not a good idea for anyone, at any time.

4. As I pointed out to a repub hill staffer I know last November
Trying to manage a diverse array of representatives is like herding cats. The repubs problem is that they have to herd feral cats.

19. An excellent representation of the situation.
I really like it, it led me to think of it in a similar fashion. Republicans lured in a bunch of feral cats to help get rid of the mice. Now that the mice are gone they're left with a bunch of feral cats in their house tearing up the furniture and spraying on everything.

12. The Republilcan Party is broken, not the Congress
They need to clean their damn house, and not be allowed to alter the government to make room for their nutters. They are too fractured to participate, they simply need to understand that their current status as one Party pretending to be two Parties, Tea and Pug is not workable, they need to decide which Party they are, and until then, they do not really have the votes to do anything at all under the Constitutional system. So they should just vote along with the Democrats, who are able to run Congress until they are able to make a working Party for themselves.

14. Leadership is way to petty to vote with Democrats. Can Not Give Obama A "Political Win"
Obama and Democrats must be "destroyed"

They need to GROW the FUCK UP and forget about their Party Of No pollitical gamesmanship. They seem incapable of doing that.

17. What you said, it is what I said.
Only I include bits about how if a group wants to destroy you, you need to fight them, not capitulate to them.
"We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace — business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.
They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob. Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me — and I welcome their hatred." FDR.

a report on MSNBC and I heard no mention of it...only that boner and the house would get the job done their own and something about a two-tier plan.

21. It's a trial balloon.
That's why it was leaked to only one reporter. To see how it would go over, if there is too much resistance, they won't do it.

20. It cuts both ways --
it is also a tool to bypass liberal Democrats, who Obama has such a problem with. Anotehr reason why the idea stinks to high heaven and should be shot down immediately.
