If you disagree with a Republican on anything at all, you are:
- a communist
- a socialist
- a Marxist
- anti-American
- anti-God
- the enemy
- a terrorist
- a baby killer
- French (as if that's an insult)
- worthy of death
- a traitor

What else have you been called, just for not being a hardcore right-winger?

So vile and nasty that the word (Liberal) should not even be uttered, according to Ronald Reagan. I actually think that is where a lot of this demonization got started.

30. here is the "memo" - Language: A Key Mechanism of Control
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4443.htm

Language: A Key Mechanism of Control

Newt Gingrich's 1996 GOPAC memo

As you know, one of the key points in the GOPAC tapes is that "language matters." In the video "We are a Majority," Language is listed as a key mechanism of control used by a majority party, along with Agenda, Rules, Attitude and Learning. As the tapes have been used in training sessions across the country and mailed to candidates we have heard a plaintive plea: "I wish I could speak like Newt."

That takes years of practice. But, we believe that you could have a significant impact on your campaign and the way you communicate if we help a little. That is why we have created this list of words and phrases.

This list is prepared so that you might have a directory of words to use in writing literature and mail, in preparing speeches, and in producing electronic media. The words and phrases are powerful. Read them. Memorize as many as possible. And remember that like any tool, these words will not help if they are not used.

While the list could be the size of the latest "College Edition" dictionary, we have attempted to keep it small enough to be readily useful yet large enough to be broadly functional. The list is divided into two sections: Optimistic Positive Governing words and phrases to help describe your vision for the future of your community (your message) and Contrasting words to help you clearly define the policies and record of your opponent and the Democratic party.

For years it seemed some liberals were reluctant to admit it because the Reagan movement had so demonized liberalism.

The northern colonies were fairly egalitarian, while the southern colonies were highly hierarchical and semi-feudal.

18. "Loser" is another favorite
Successful people all vote Republican while Democrats are those who lack the moral fiber to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and want to punish potential millionaires like Joe Freeper by taxing him on the hypothetical earnings he's going to make at some unspecified point in the future once the Free Market Fairy rewards him for his superior bootstrap pulling.

One of the dumbest things a winger ever said to me was that "an egalitarian society is not at all possible".

Actually, that'd be one of the most possible things we can pull off if human steroided-up GREED and sociopathy didn't have to ruin such a vision.

This is usually after you show them how to do something that they can't, but before you get into a discussion about politics. The more difficult the task you accomplished, the longer the label "smart" lasts before turning into one of the other choices.

Usually, they suggest that one is crazy or deranged. But they also seem to like to refer to a lack of bladder control. Pants-wetting, bed-wetting, wet-diaper-crybaby. Just add "Liberal" after one of these phrases and you've got it. Urination is a very territorial matter for primates, or so I'm led to understand. Them's fightin' words.

Ah, to be French! Sigh. I need to start wearing berets more. (Super-bonus-extra-musing-because-this-poster-hasn't-yet-had-adequate-coffee: In France, do they call one another "American!" with perjorative intent?)
