In terms of the extremists on both sides, liberals are the lesser of two evils
A politically moderate friend of mine once told me, "Liberals are merely annoying. Conservatives are evil."

When extremist liberals are upset, they stage protests, smoke weed, participate in civil disobedience, or at the very worst burn down a building with no human casualties, like the restaurant in Vail about 12 years ago. When extremist conservatives get wind of the fact that there are people in the world who are not EXACTLY LIKE THEM, they use bullets and bombs to enforce their views, or at least threaten to. Oklahoma City, Oslo, and (maybe) Tucson are examples of this.

The "centrists" have proven to be at least as ideological as anyone but have framed themselves as being in the middle. The middle of what is left undefined and their relentless effort to get their aims enacted shows them to be anything but moderate.

Pretty good, overall, but tree-spiking is hardly benign. Ditto Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and all other murderous heads of collectivist regimes.

Liberalism is at its best when it exalts the rights of the individual against the wishes of the group. When Liberalism embraces the collective, it will kill you as dead as any trigger-happy, authority-loving, right-wing soldier or cop.

In measuring liberals: Yea, ACLU! Boo, the City Councils of San Francisco, Chicago and New York.

27. "Liberal Extremist" is a contradiction in terms.
As long as I've been alive and aware, the word "liberal" means generous, open. In political terms, "liberal" has always been shorthand for the open-mindedness that is willing to consider all ideas that might, in fact, provide pragmatic solutions to very real problems.

There are a handful of Marxists and true Socialists in the United States,
but NONE make it to the Media,
who are more than happy to set the Liberal End of the spectrum with Obama & Hillary.

What you see on DU are the mainstream FDR/LBJ Democrats.
We are hardly "extreme",
and you do us an injustice by calling FDR Democrats "extreme".
You are helping move this country to the Right by setting up this False Equivalence.
