Boy, that Mika girl has spunk.
Anyone see the close-out of the Morning Joe show? She was polite, but walked off when Scarboro made light of her opinion on the compromise.

1. Missed it/never watch it. What was her opinion?
Did he make light because it was her opinion, or because he disagreed with it substantively? Or could you tell?

Repeating what I said below:

They were all recapping the main thing they learned that day and Mika said something about the Teaparty, like she was placing the blame of the compromise on the Teaparty and Scarboro said he learned that there was an earthquake in some obscure part of the world and Mika blamed the Teaparty.

She didn't appreciate that Scarboro was not taking the thing seriously and walked off set.

Usually, they just do clips of individual guests on their website...

looks at Scarboro and seems to admire him.

22. Actually, that isn't true.
She is the outlier on the panel. She frequently is put up against the "men" who laugh at her an belittle her for standing up to Democratic principles. Does she also often pander to her boss, Joe Scarborough? Of course. But more often than not, she is the voice of reason in the Boys Club. I wish she'd stand up more, but at least she's standing up. She's no Allen Colmes. She stands her ground and fights back most of the time, but not always. Just like most of us.

5. It's about time!
She's been taking his abuse and belittling of her views for far too long. It's supposed to come off as good-natured kidding, but it can't be pleasant to be put in that position time after time, even if only as part of the show's schtick.

I hope her walkoff isn't just more staged schtick.

18. Question - is the phrase "You go, girl!" demeaning?

I hear it a lot, but don't use it, because while it seems to be an indication of encouragement, it includes the word "girl". So it's confusing to me.

26. General/Specific

I avoid it as a general term.

I still can't figure out why people watch that show anyway. The few times I watched, Mika's subservient fawning made me feel uncomfortable. She does seem to project an air of juvenile dependence on the "wisdom" that oozes from Scarbrat.

man.... there is a dependence and oddity with joe. was odd in her performance that night. joe was in back room, helping her sell book or something, there as her support.

the only thing i know about the woman.

21. Should the poster have called her a boy?
The mere mentioning of one's gender in passing is not sexist.

fuck. people call boys, men.... when was the last time you heard a girl called a woman.

and you really get it. you understand why it was pointed out. you are playing a game.

33. You know something I've noticed about getting older?
It's six one way and half a dozen the other. If I were posting on a conservative blog I would have called her a woman. But on a progressive blog, aside from the PCers, I think most people would see the "You go girl!" inference.

34. ahhh, well see.
i didnt see it as an inference of go girl, even though as post above i said i say go woman, off the go girl thing.

to me, the girl stood out, but sounding like that is what you meant. get it.

really, i find the whole girl, woman, lady thing really fascinating. so many people have such a hard time saying woman. me, too, until i came to realize it. why? like we are calling the woman old or it is an insult. i have since notice hubby will say girl. how old i ask? 30, 40. girl? ok, lady he says. lady? why lady? but saying woman is so hard.

i find it interesting now i am accustomed to using woman, why there is that brain fart in our head.

but get what you are saying.

36. I didn't see it.
Nor do I see anything wrong with being PC.

To me, being PC means having respect for what labels people prefer in regards to their race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

When I think of the term PC, I think of a republicans.

40. Some Liberals are very PC.
It was one of the things that helped tune them out. They began to have rhetorical fights over things that closed off more minds than opened doors. Like the use of "bitch" for instance. Some people here get all finicky about that word, when it's so ingrained in the culture that half of the time you don't know if it's more of a compliment than an insult.

The word "girl" has a similar complexity. If you feel a closeness to the person, "girl," as in "girl power!" passes without raising a brow. I felt a closeness to Mika since I can relate to her situation. Being the lone voice of sanity in a boy's club.

She usually just sits there looking constipated and making guttural noises.

She's basically the designated news reader. Beyond that, she's a waste.
