WorldNetDaily: Oslo Attacks Were a Left-Wing Conspiracy
Source: Mother Jones

I had thought Glenn Beck's comparison of the massacred Norwegian children to the "Hitler Youth" was the most horrific response to last Friday's terrorist attack in Oslo. But now, via Right Wing Watch, I see that WorldNetDaily and radio host Michael Savage have upped the ante. They've decided that it's just too far-fetched to think that Anders Breivik, the blue-eyed, blond-haired white guy who admitted to the crimes, could have possibly committed such a barbaric act. So they've decided it's probably a cover-up by the left-wing Norwegian government:

"The official story makes no sense," Savage told WND. "This looks like a classic conspiracy."

"This has all the appearances of a cover-up," Savage told WND. "They created their Reichstag fire. They found their Timothy McVeigh. They created their Jack Ruby. How could one man have blown up the downtown and then raced to the island to kill the teens?

"This is likely a fabrication of the Labour Party, who needs to hold onto power to enforce their multi-culturalist, Muslim-favoring, anti-nationalist views," he continued, "especially in light of the earlier 'credit' for this atrocity claimed by the radical Muslim group whose leader they were threatening to deport.

25. Agreed. But shouldn't the same thing also be said of Faux News?
I am speaking in reference to all of their news coverage, and not to just this one incident. I'm told that O'whatshisface does a really wicked goose step as he struts around the studio each day, prior to fanning the flames of his "news" show. But I have just remembered that no one at Faux claims that it is news anymore. It is now referred to as "entertainment", lest all of them be proved to be liars.

5. Thank God for Michael Savage!
Thank God for Michael Savage to provide an explanation to the RW nutters so they wouldn't have to look at themselves in the mirror and accept the fact that there are lunatics among them.

Nevermind that it's a conspiracy theory of monumental proportions and would involve too many people to even be feasible. Critical thinking isn't one of their strong points.

8. World Net Daily and Faux are doing a disservice to the country.
Faux keeps equating the Norwegian to the UniBomber.

The Unibomber's hatred was directed at Corporations .
His target CEOs. The Norwegian has hatred for opposition
party ideology.

Entirely different. They were both young white males.
From there they are different.

Tabloid quality of Fox illustrated in reporting this story.
In an effort to admit the Right Wing can be violent
and destructive, they blur facts. This is no different
than the National Enquirer. There is a kernel of truth
in their stories but boy can they weave a wild yarn.

Get real. The Right can be just as violent and organized
to do damage as the Left ever tried to be. Trying to hide
this will only make them worse. They think they can get
away with things because they will be protected by RW Media.

T

9. Your political discourse is extremely damaging for your country, abroad as well
Not many Norwegians are impressed by Glenn Beck's comparison of dead young people to Hitler Youth. I know Beck's a nutcase, but most people don't know who he is.

The damage this dysfunctional political discourse is causing is much greater than Americans think.

17. This has been beyond maddening to me. It's utterly surreal.
American political discourse is astoundingly dysfunctional, and if one wants to be honest, pretty much always has been. We can perhaps see the major difference between today and the past in the role the media now plays in the process. Where once they may have informed, now they distract, entertain and engage in propaganda.

24. I agree. Being a Norwegian yourself, I know that you've doubtlessly got
the pulse of what's going on in the minds and hearts of Norwegians. Having said that, many Americans like myself don't even know where this extreme right-wing ideology sprung from in it's present form with it's attraction to so many Americans. It's insanity is mind boggling. I know it's genesis was most likely in the Southern states during the Civil Rights era and the flames were fanned with the Republicans' Southern Strategy. From there, it became practically a religious cult that was married to corporatism when the latter saw an opening to merge it's pro-wealth agenda onto hot-button issues that the Southern states adopted as time went on as stealth attacks on minorities and the poor; the poor whom they mostly considered minorities. Again, my heart goes out to the people of Norway and I understand the confusion and anger you feel over the current American discourse. It spans both the left and right in many places, but I'm sticking to my point of view that the left-leaning in America at least are on the side of safety nets for the poor and against corporate interests that threaten the well-being of the majority of American society and the military-industrial complex run by corporate greed that also threatens countries abroad. I extend my condolences to your countrymen.

31. I did wonder that -- with the increasing cockiness of our right-wing nutjobs
and our media giving that faction a voice as if that mindset was perfectly healthy, I have been wondering if people in other countries might be watching that and suddenly finding themselves suffering from a nasty mix of dread and deja vu.

21. He plagiarised the Unabomber in his "manifest"
Sections where he's railing against cultural marxists. he just subsituted Unabombers "leftists" with "cultural marxists" which Breivik holds responsible for facilitating the muslim take over of European christian identity.

10. He's accusing the liberal government of being "multi-culturalist, Muslim-favoring, anti-nationalist"
so he must believe that conservatives are "uni-culturalist, anti-Muslim and anti-internationalist." Given the protestations of our teabaggers, I'd say that is a pretty accurate assessment of their mentality.

35. A "cultured euro tea-party" would be an improvement over our US version.
His version of the tea party might even support the welfare state (for "real" Norwegians, at least) and the high taxes needed to support it, so it wouldn't be a "real" tea party in the eyes of American teabaggers. :)

36. No, Breivik was a leissez-faire ideologist and hated the welfare state
He felt it took away opportunities for nice, successful people like himself and gave it to lazy muslims and marxists.

11. They're image oriented. All they can see is the surface of things.
Blond is clean. Black is dirty. That's all there is to it.

So skin and hair seem to be the factors involved.

I just remembered something from nearly 40 years ago. A friend in art school made a sculpture called "Redneck brain". It was simply a brain colored red.

Whoa, Nellie!

"I hoped that incidents like this," he said, "will lead Europeans to come to the defense of their own civilizations
and clamp down on the hate and intolerance that takes perverse advantage of European tolerance and openness."
