GOP Demand Obama Protect Social Security, Cut Something Or Other
Benjy Sarlin | TPMDC
July 26, 2011, 2:43PM

<snip>

Republican lawmakers from the House and Senate gathered on Tuesday to repeat demands that the Treasury Dept shield seniors, soldiers, and bondholders from any ill effects of a default crisis. They've created legislation to this effect as well, which they urged the White House to back. Once again, however, the top sponsors of the measure are silent on what should be cut back instead.

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) was asked repeatedly by reporters what payments Treasury Department should suspend to make up for the guarantees to Social Security and troop pay. He offered no specifics.

"There's room for other payments to be made," he said. "It is not our intent to specify every last dollar, but rather to identify these vitally important programs and avoid default on our debt."

7. Executive discretion to stop all projects in Republican districts/states since
Republicans want deep cuts. And, put out a large sign, this project closed by vote of the House of Representatives and its Republican majority. Start with their districts/states and the people who elected them. The FAA has had to stop their projects and let people go (not work) when the Republicans refused to fund the FAA. It seems to me that all Republican districts/states are the proper place to cut spending. The Republicans game playing is causing great harm to the economy and raising the debt. All members of Congress should cut their staff in half and perhaps the Republicans could cut by 2/3rds since they do not want to fund any government and want the government to shrink. Shrink their offices and office space in the name of Republican values.

10. Hmm...

So the Rethugs are publicly demanding that Obama protect SS, the military and bondholders from being affected...yet their "cut cap and balance" legislation likely contains language to that very effect...that it WILL eventually affect at least those who will soon be recieving, or are eligible/approved for SSD, SSI, or SS retirement?!?

If so, then they are blatantly attempting to make Obama look like the "bad guy" bandit in all this partisan feuding over raising the debt-ceiling BS.
