Powerful anti-war song by the best rock band in the world.
Intervention
By Arcade Fire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s36u3_o6p_k

The king's taken back the throne
The useless seed is sown
When they say they're cutting off the phone
I'll tell 'em you're not home

No place to hide
You were fighting as a soldier on their side
You're still a soldier in your mind
Though nothing's on the line

You say it's money that we need
As if we're only mouths to feed
I know no matter what you say
There are some debts you'll never pay

Working for the church
While your family dies
You take what they give you
And you keep it inside
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home
Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"

I can taste the fear
Gonna lift me up and take me out of here
Don't wanna fight, don't wanna die
Just wanna hear you cry

Who's gonna throw the very first stone?
Oh! Who's gonna reset the bone?
Walking with your head in a sling
Wanna hear the soldier sing

Working for the Church
While my family dies
Your little baby sister's
Gonna lose her mind
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home
Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"

I can taste your fear
It's gonna lift you up and take you out of here
And the bone shall never heal
I care not if you kneel

We can't find you now
But they're gonna get their money back somehow
And when you finally disappear
We'll just say that you were never here

Been working for the church
While your life falls apart
Singing hallelujah with the fear in your heart
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home
Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"
Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"

Arcade Fire has the hottest live rock show on the planet right now.
If in doubt watch this:

4. Totally!
That's why they're headlining all the major music festivals.

I wouldn't want them for my opening act.

Of course, these things are subjective. Mileage may vary. :hi:

10. A very important statement and a fine piece of music. Had a little trouble
Edited on Wed Jul-27-11 10:09 PM by patrice
watching it all of the way through; we have a Ranger in my family.

It's a hard thing to say and Rise Against manages to say it quite clearly. As deeply grieved as we are for the victims of war, the soldiers pay a very special price that the rest of us refer to as our "humanity" and then they have to go on living with that anomie. This is very important part of what has made Bush's LIES so profoundly evil.

THANKS for the link.

12. They're awesome in person if you ever get the chance.
And they usually have IVAW tabling, which I think is awesome. :)

16.  I understand it's easy to just jump the fence.
I can't really afford it, but I'm not going to miss it. I sprang for $100 single day ticket for Sunday.

9. I read the reviews of that show.
You were very lucky to see them in a relatively small venue. That may be a thing of the past.

That's my old stomping grounds. I was managing a band and light show & we played UVA lots of times. (1967)

6. I like them! Poetic.Their front man has what it takes.
From the Veder-esque branch of the family tree.

All of the instruments make it interesting. I hope they get lots of solos in their other songs.

Thanks for the link!

11. I wonder if there will be somekind of Renaissance in Rock 'n' Roll kind of riding on top
of all of the social change headed our way.

The arts are being defunded a lot, perhaps the challenge will stimulate somekind of defiant re-birth.

19. A major portion of their audience is very young.
And they are playing some powerful, rebellious stuff.

They played some benefits for Obama, even though they are from Montreal, and they donate part of their ticket proceeds to Partners in Health and Kanpe, both doing relief work in Haiti. They have volunteers advocating for these groups at all their shows. Arcade Fire's 'Wake Up' was played at the last Super Bowl, and all of the NFL licensing fees went to Haitian relief. They are activists and they rock!

17. Jeez, me too. I'm pushing 70.
Well, I'm 64, but still.

This band made me feel 20 years old again when I watched the amazing glowing ball drop at the Coachella Festival.

21. Another geezer here...
...who is proud to have shared the stage with The Minutemen, way back when.

I think that Arcade Fire is perhaps the best band on the planet right now, at least as far as the bands I am aware of right now.

Their live show is beyond excellent.

It ain't punk rock, but, hey, it's pretty fuckin' good.

22. Oh, most excellent as well!
But, seriously, try to keep up here, will ya'?

It is now 2011.

Hell, I could have posted the song 'Life During Wartime' by the Talking Heads.

Hard to believe that 'Stop Making Sense' was filmed 28 years ago, and the song precedes that by quite a few years.

Time flies when you're having too much fun. :smoke:

It's in the Rule Book!

Look it up!
