Hartmann: GE moves x-ray business to China, now that China passed national single payer health care
Hear the giant sucking sound? General Electric announced yesterday it is moving its x-ray business headquarters OUT of the US and INTO China.

Since three years ago when China instituted a national single-payer healthcare system that covers all billion-plus Chinese citizens, that nation is now home to a rapidly expanding healthcare market – and GE wants to get in the game.

I guess in the United States where basic healthcare is becoming less and less available – the x-ray business isn’t very profitable anymore. Unclear how many jobs will be lost as GE ditches its previous x-ray headquarters in Waukesha, Wisconsin for the new Chinese digs. Meanwhile – GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt serves as the head of President Obama’s job creation council.

Brilliant, eh?

How is that for another slap in the face for regular people?

Our government is broken.

2. Democratic Leaders need to use China as the example of
why Universal Healthcare for all actully benefits the medical industry. Quadruple the number of patients = $$$$. Why is this so hard?

6. Because their model is- force people to pay for 'insurance'
And then make it so they can never use it with huge deductibles and copays. That way the Co.'s get $$$ for doing nothing! It's the American Way :sarcasm:

3. Further proving that NWO fascists can get away with any lie they want to tell gullible RW voters.
They convince the stupiderati that social programs benefiting the health and living quality of the working class are wrong, that personal lives (especially sex and reproduction) should be heavily regulated. and that corporations should be unregulated.

4. Just like the ad says during MSNBC evening time:
*China is evolving. Invest in China.* It used to sadden me when that ad came on; now it seems par for the course. We're screwed, and a big chunk of America doesn't even know it yet.

9. Really! I can't believe China has single payer. I didn't know this.
I am so sick and tired of stupid Americans. They are the ones responsible for electing idiots into Congress.

I just had to add that bit. I'm tired of fighting for what is rational. It's like trying to convince a drunk that what they're doing is unhealthy.

8. And what are RW pols doing?
Pissing about gay marriage and family values.

What a laughingstock we've become.

And, sadly, we've become incidental, no, irrelevant, to the success of American, so-called American, and formerly American companies.

If all you want is a "maintenenace hog", get their equipment. Have to call work orders at least bi-weekly.

I am just glad for Siemens USA.

Hell, even the USSR managed that. I swear even setting aside all his other terrible polices this just shows Mao sucked at this whole socialist revolution thing.

23. Under Mao, China had a full socialst healthcare system.
Under Mao's system, each collective had one or two doctors assigned to treat the members of that collective. As proper communists, those doctors weren't paid, but were directly supported by the members of the collective. If anyone needed medical care beyond what they could offer, those doctors could refer them to a government run hospital. Those hospitals operated on a money basis, and the bills were paid by the collective.

When China de-collevtivized after Mao, those local doctors vanished. Instead, health care became cooperative. You joined the coop, dedicated a mandatory portion of your earnings to it, and those earnings supported your local hospital and doctors. You could see them without charge. The downside? If you didn't have anything to contribute, you couldn't join. Because China didn't make joining mandatory, there were also many people who opted out and kept their earnings. Most coops collapsed because there weren't enough people in them. At that point, most of the people found themselves in a Fee For Service environment. That worked fine for a long time, but modern hospitals with modern technology is expensive, and many Chinese can't afford it today.

25. Interesting. Thanks for the information.
I'll admit my knowledge of Mao's China is limited, since I haven't really studied it all that much. I appreciate the correction.
