PHOTO of the DAY (JAPAN)

High school students dance in an exhibition event after the opening of the 2011 Japan inter-high school athletics championships, which are being held across the four prefectures of Aomori, Iwate, Akita, and Miyagi, at the New Aomori Prefecture Sports Park on July 28, 2011. About 28,000 participants will compete in 29 events in the championships, which continue until Aug. 20. (Mainichi)

Lovely Tibetan head gear

Visitors walk through a field of lavender at Farm Tomita in the Hokkaido town of Nakafurano. Some 60,000 lavender plants are in bloom at the farm, which covers an area of about six hectares. The farm, located in the Furano Basin in the middle of Hokkaido, has seen fewer sightseers overall this year as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, but visitors continue to turn up from early in the morning. The lavender will be in bloom until early August. Entry to the farm is free. (Mainichi)

Strings hang from an oyster raft in a huge tank at Miyajima Public Aquarium on the island of Miyajima, a World Heritage Site in Hiroshima Prefecture, on July 25, 2011. The display is the centerpiece of the remodeled aquarium set to reopen on Aug. 1 and featuring 350 types of exhibits. Oysters are a specialty of Hiroshima. (Mainichi)

1. That's a wonderfully framed photograph of the lavender field.
You always bring us vivid colors. They seem a reflection of an embrace of life, in it's depth, I grow more and more aware is part of Japanese culture.

6. If he can get leave to go
Edited on Thu Jul-28-11 04:59 PM by AsahinaKimi
Then by all means he should visit..many times those kind of opportunities do not come again. If I were in Asia, and had access to air travel, I would probably travel as much as I am able!

7. I would more like to have his children see things like that
of course it is good for the heart of everyone.

They just left here, sunny Floriduh, after a deployment leave and are returning to the main island where their home is at this time.

When they arrive, I'll tell them about this.
