Funny, I don't see no space exploration mentioned in the Constitution. Surely if the Founding Fathers intended the Federal Government to put people on the Moon, they'd have said something about it?

Does this mean that some of these wingers may actual have begun to realize that 'cutting government spending'= 'increase unemployment'?
No, of course not, unless it's their own jobs. Government should be no larger than the size it takes to employ me.'

And 30 years of cutting taxes had nothing to do with it?
On a more serious note, even if the government shrinks, we should still fund NASA, and fund it more. We get so much back for our investment that it's a no-brainer, the problem is that it's not an accomplishment that gets you elected in this country.

SSDD. How often have we seen politicians say things like: Federal spending is a tragic waste that puts an unfair burden on you and your family, and I’m happy to announce I’ve helped secure millions of it for our state.

Except it was Bush -- from Texas -- who decided to end the shuttle program.
I would presume he already knows that. Perry 's statement is weasel- worded just enough so that we don't know for sure what the hell he's specifically talking about.

And if Obama had done something to reverse that Perry would probably be first in line to claim that it was yet another example of Obama's socialist policy and a waste on the economy.

We should be focusing on where the real significant waste is: NPR and Planned Parenthood.
We're making progress toward that. We did manage to get rid of that vast sinkhole of taxpayers' money, ACORN.

"that in the (very, very) long run, the only hope for the survival of humanity is escaping Earth. That might be tricky to achieve with only unmanned spaceflight."
How about womanned spaceflight?
