Well, House Republicans voted for the Tea Party’s SYMBOLIC debt ceiling bill for passage to the Senate this afternoon. Here’s what we got out of it:
1) A six month SHORT TERM raising of the debt ceiling (meaning that we will have to go through this whole mess AGAIN around Christmas) 2) A Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment to be PASSED ON to the states for ratification (which three fourths of the states must ratify – a process that will take years to enact) 3) 3.4 trillion in expenditure cuts 4) 1.8 trillion in additional expenditure cuts (AFTER - ‘cross your fingers’ - ratification of the Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment by the states) 5) NO revenue provisions
How in the world is this going to resolve the LONG TERM default crisis looming before us in 4 days?
I’m going to continue calls and emails for a COMPROMISED, BALANCED debt ceiling solution when the Senate passes their debt ceiling bill back to the House this weekend at:
