Aug. 2 Deadline Maybe Impossible Now Veteran Lawmakers Say
........even if both sides decided Saturday to raise the $14.3 trillion borrowing ceiling and to reduce future annual deficits, it would be extremely difficult for the compromise measure to wend its way through Congress before Tuesday’s deadline given Congressional legislative procedures........

4. The fact is, they could wait until next year and nothing much would happen.
This is a manufactured "crisis" and the consensus that comes out will be equally manufactured.

The whole process has been compromised.
