Come Aug 3rd, and default... seniors won't receive their SS. How
loud will the screaming be? By the way, I'm on SS, too.

1. That's not going to happen.

Even if they default, seniors on SS will still get their checks.

3. Won't happen.
Despite the persistent proclamations and predictions of failure and capitulation by the President from those who claim to be his 'base' (), he won't let it get there.

4. Well from the regulars today at the coffee shop
they are ALL on Social Security... at least the morning group.

"We can't vote for Republicans.. or they will destroy the country."

I got the same thing from the Trader that came over for lunch...

Suffice it to say I just listened... but they were pissed, and the seniors were afraid they were not going to get their SS checks, and mostly PISSED. These are better off seniors that can skate by.

5. My understanding is that those who get direct deposit
will get their checks regardless. Anyone who receives a paper check might SOOL.

11. I seriously doubt that. Sure it's easier to make the transfer of funds than to print and mail
checks, but I really doubt anyone would make a decision like that. IF, and I think it's a big if, a shutdown lasts a while, there COULD be a time when payroll to the military & SS might not be able to be made. My guess is that FirST, interest payments will be made on our debt, then military pay & SS will be paid. After that, it's anybody's guess.

13. I don't know. That seems nonsensical for one reason, and quite possible for a different reason.
I suspect that since the checks perforce MUST be 'mailed' by the second in order to arrive on the third, then they'll be fine. But they'd be dated for the third, at which point I don't know if a default would prevent them from being cashed. I wouldn't THINK so...but you never know. DD ones should be posted on the second (or earlier) and the bank will complete the transaction as the day rolls over to the third, making those funds accessible.

I'm reasonably certain we'll be okay THIS third. Now next, that's anybody's guess.

Someone please let me know if I missed something/overlooked something critical. :)
