Mozart
Edited on Fri Jul-29-11 11:34 PM by Armstead
Nothing better to forget about the current atrocious mess that is occurring in Washington than slapping on the ol' headphones and cranking up some Mozart.

A great reminder that there is a lot more to life than that bullshit.

1. True!
Even watching HSN and looking at Thomas Kinkade art is diverting. One out of 15 Tom Kinkage 'paintings' are quite beautiful. Sometimes we have to look at or listen to any art and enjoy the beautiful, the silly, and/or the numinous. Because if we worry about things we can't change we will go crazy. :(

4. Yeah, quite different
But sometimes I like dark rock too.

Mozart is an escape from the Washington Bilge.... But yours might be a good way to let off some steam.

5. I like Mozart too.
Lots of classical music is cool. I prefer messed up stuff, but I also get into jazz, blues, hip hop, country...pretty much anything but straight pop. There's something good in almost all genres, imo.

But when I really want to let off steam though I listen to Craft's Fuck the Universe cd.

8. Funny you should mention it. I'm listening to Mozart right now.
"The Secret Mozart".

A collection of his piano pieces played on a clavichord owned by Mozart himself. Fascinating stuff...

11. His sonatas were always my favorite to play.
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 01:06 AM by girl gone mad
The music is not as flashy and impressive to listeners as Chopin or Rachmaninoff, etc, but it can be equally challenging because of the level of perfection required. Any mistakes or incorrect notes will stand out, they can't be disguised. Even though he was pre-romantic his melodies are still full of joy and sorrow, often deeply intertwined, especially in the minor keys. Beethoven stole heavily from Mozart and it is easy to imagine that if Mozart had lived longer, he would have embraced romanticism in the same manner. When I moved on to learning some Beethoven sonatas, I thought of them as 'later Mozart'.

13. I always "escape to art" because I know that art always saves you.
Music, painting, sculpture...art takes the "now" out and puts you into a state quite close to ecstasy...hard to explain but it works EVERY time!
