In 2007, after one of the presidential primary debates, Norman Goldman asked bill Richardson--
--what it meant to be a Democrat. Richardson stood there for awhile, couldn't think of anything to say, and eventually walked away. The anecdote is from Goldman's appearance at the AM 1090 progressive forum in Seattle.

That is the crux of the problem we have right now. Goldman pointed out that everyone knows what it means to be a Republican--lower taxes and less government (of course with exceptions whenever they feel like it). The Republicans may be hypocrites, but everyone knows what they are being hypocritical about.

Democrats didn't have this problem from FDR through LBJ. How can we change that?

1. Get rid of the DLC types and corporate influence; make it a populist party again.
