Jesse Ventura.

What is DU's opinion of this guy?

From what I've seen, he seems like a likable sort, but a bit too conspiracy-minded and Tea-baggy for my own liking.

EDIT: Here's his website:

1. As someone who lived through his time as governor, I have a very negative opinion of him.
Mileage varies.

4. Not to mention
he seems to believe in EVERY government conspiracy out there; "end the fed", anti-tax, etc.

On the other hand he does seem to believe that deregulation crashed the economy.

29. I agree. What he started is still continuing in the Tbagger congress
we now have. He convinced people that the Democrats in MN had created a mess which was blatantly untrue and the rethugs have built on that lie ever since. Pawlenty was just as bad as Ventura.

32. Actually he didn't start much of anything.
Between the dems and republicans in congress and the media, all of whom hated having an independent win the governorship, they pretty much hamstrung him and then blamed him for the results.

Sound familiar?

34. I agree that his congress which was mainly Democratic did not let
him get away with much. But the trouble he started was in what he said not what he was able to get done. His negative attitudes which he had no problem expressing was the foundation for voters who later rejected Democrats in favor of other parties.

36. I will certainly grant you
that he didn't handle it in the same manner as ... say Barak Obama has handled basically the same bs, with almost mind numbing over-the-top diplomacy and patience. How many of us would be able to maintain that kind of aplomb in such a situation? Not me!!

And neither response has been especially helpful to our cause. When the power brokers want to make somebody look ineffective and foolish, it doesn't matter what he says or does, they'll find a way.

He may have been a UDT member, but he wasn't a SEAL.

If I played for the Dodgers for 5 years, and AFTER I got traded the Dodgers changed their name to the Diggers, could I call myself a former Digger?

10. He speaks truth in regards to the assassination of President Kennedy.
That says a lot for me, a guy called a conspiracy nut by more than one dude.

What I've learned: Poppy Bush brought up JFK Assassination and ''Conspiracy Theorists'' at Ford Funeral

You may find lots of information there that doesn't get mentioned on ABCNNBCBSFixedNoiseNutworks and the rest of Corporate McPravda.

Jesse Ventura does, though.

such as about the wars in Iraq and the corporate agenda being pushed in America.

But some of it is almost paralleled to Ron Paul...who I think is a bit loony too.

13. Its best to
read his books and hear what he has to say on his U Tube videos before jumping to conclusions.

18. Well, keeping in mind that
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 01:31 PM by fivepennies
this was his stance at a time when jobs were plentiful and local retraining centers were still going strong. Nowhere does he say he's in favor of ripping the rug out from under people's feet.

I don't even pretend to speak for him, I only posted this link to give people a better idea of what he once publicly stood for. And its fair to say that his attitudes on many of these issues would have changed over the past few years.

edit TWICE for crappy spelling.

19. cover up....in plain sight
Jesse 'sells' a product, and there's lotsa profit, and....meanwhile, Bush The Whelp and that gang of gopig thugs disappears into 'hushtory' (formerly 'history') There are so many bad guys -ken starr runs baylor university in waco texas, and karl rove earns millions as a tv commmentator, for example- one has a hard time even beginning! But, to put it mildly, the NAZIS won WW2 (though they lost the actual battle of europe in 1945) they, the rightwing, were in control of the western democracies and quietly worked at destroying the leftwing revlution, which ended in 1989 when the USSR fell. 911 was staged, by and for certain rightwing political interests who, nudge wink USE the rightwing islamic crazies to press on to 'total victory or total ruin' (And this was after funding islamic extremism all through carter/reagan/ bush1/clinton/ right until bush junyer era!) Jesse Ventura FOCUSES outrage in a slap happy, easy to ignore way. The rightwing are TOTALLY in control of the planet today, and, it's astonishing to say it, but the only resistance to fascism is the tea party type fascists themselves, who Jesse holds up as example of political foolishness! See Ron Paul...hahaha
Too big to fail? The banks, the US dollar, how about nuclear power (when nukler power was first built up- to justify the nukler weapon business, it was under cover of 'arms race' with poor old USSR which had lost 25 million people and 1/3rd of its economic strength defeating fascism in WW2, while the USA sat back and grew fat and very rich meanwhile! Iow, the USSR wanted to SHARE in Marshal Plan rebuilding of europe, but the nazipoohs churchill/truman terrorised Stalin with nukes as used needlessly against Japan, forcing USSR to keep its military in Europe, despite the terrible cost! Nuclear power also necessitated police state security apparatus re 'Natsecstapo (NAtional SECcurity STate POlice designed just like the GErman STate POlice, or Gestapo)
Destroying the USSR, the revolution, was probably the biggest trick pulled on humanity in all of history. It's so successful NO ONE even realises it today. Or at least they pretend they don't know it. And by pretending, they can set up Islamofascism as a straw man to fight, while really taking away all OUR RIGHTS!
And Jesse Ventura NEVER dares talk about that, or the Natsecstapo would... arrange his demise, i betcha!
lol
