McConnell made it very clear he's "engaged with the President" has
spoken to the ONE person in the country who can sign this into law, has spoken with the POTUS and VP within the past hour, and is VERY optimistic an agreement will be reached. Default is NOT an option.

So, in the interim Pelosi and Reid have been called to the WH.

Sounds as though something is going down, maybe Obama is letting Pelosi and Reid in on it??

I'm nervous, and I've been supporting Obama all along, but I'm just not too confident we'll like the deal.

1. McConnell is lying. He is in it for the default. He has said he will not help the president in any
way. The stupid media will say anything just as McConnell will.

7. Disagree (and I think I just responded as such to a post from
you in another thread :7)

My opinion is because of the "we default, we own it" AND, the big $$$ has told him to NOT let it happen.

11. Agree
I don't think McConnell wants the defailt to happen. What exactly his game is though, I don't know, and McConnell is always playing a devious game.

the teabagger philosophy and advocates for them.

27. Impeachment or Disaster
Yes the tea people will impeach if he invokes the 14th amendment and the economy will be severely damaged if he doesn't.
President Obama has no real choice, he cannot allow terrorists to take our government hostage, he cannot give in to their demands. The senate will not convict. He didn't get elected to preside over the demise of our democratic republic.

34. If they default...
...wouldn't a couple of days disprove their arguments about the government not being essential though?

I mean, once they've shoved it over the edge, wouldn't the prudent move to be to let it fall a bit, AND THEN invoke the 14th and pay the bills. You would then be running in 2012 with a very real spectre of a "Tea Party World" in memory. Student loans, social security, inspections, licensing, national parks, home loans, etc...

Theirs is a LOSING hand for everyone.

That said, Obama will probably cave... Tomorrow morning, thee debt ceiling will be raised in an "Age of Austerity," and I won't be surprised at all.

the first crisis that has allowed them to get away with egregious solutions.

Given votes, bills, & rhetoric, Prez needs to consider using exec/const'l power to raise debt ceiling. Rs ready to take US to default.

14. This is all theatrics, a deal will be reached...
The problem is, the economy still sucks anyway. This debt debate has done one good thing - it kept the media from focusing on how horrible 1st and 2nd quarter GDP was. 1st quarter turned out to be .4% and second quarter came in at only 1.3% which could well be revised down to show negative growth and the beginning of a double dip recession.

32. I agree ... O is the same guy who had the balls to call it for bin Laden,
AND these fools have used their last cheap tricks ... funny, how Reid SPECIFICALLY said the McCrook was lying about "good communication" with the WH ... reports ae that the McCrook was the first to call Biden to see if he could also talk to the Prez - our Prez has these bastards all figured out, and this time it doesn't have to be about the poor unemployment beneficiary folks they were holding hostage last December; we should have this figured out by now - yea, Obama walks the extra mile - that's what decent, sincere presidents of ALL the US do, but I truly pity the playground bullies this time ... Obama will eat them up and impale them on their own petard! Looks like Reid will have some sane votes from the Repubs (besides the four who refused to sign McCrook's letter) to push successfully for a debt raising through the end of 2012 - Corker of TN just got interviewed and he is aboard with that - saying it would be more "healthy" for our economy NOT to re-do this in 6 months; as long as theit will be big 3 are not touched in this round, and the cuts are all those pre-agreed by both sides (including the ones that would come from ending the 2 wars) -- it would be ok by me.
