1. So George Bush is now our model of government to be emulated?
That's what's wrong with this whole wave of outrage: some people thought they were voting for a liberal version of Bush.

6. Obviously, he's not.
But what an end-run around the Repukes that would be. Strike out the tax cuts for the rich after it's passed.

not that it would ever happen....

7. Exactly right...
I hate that. If we complained about Bush doing something, we have no right to wish Obama to do the same.

11. Bush used it more times than all the other presidents combined...
THAT is the issue here. Too many are conveniently forgetting that one little fact.

17. I don't care what Bush did --
the point is Presidents use signing statements - they're nothing new. Has O even used one yet?

13. Why would he veto
a bill he negotiated?

There is no chance in hell that the republicans were/are going to pass any bill other than one that included extending the tax cuts for the top income earners. Unfortunately this is one of those times you have to hold your nose and approve it as it was better than the alternative, which was tax breaks for all goes away.

15. Who cares about signing statements?
They mean nothing legally. Obama has used them http://www.coherentbabble.com/listBHOall.htm. So what. All it means is that a president is unhappy about a section of legislation but he is not unhappy enough to veto it. The legislation still stands. The statement is sometimes used if the law is challenged so the judge can get a sense of the president's view besides just his signature. Congress does their own version of signing statements. If you look at the beginning of most legislation it says "Being the sense of Congress that ......" That is Congress' version of a signing statement.

18. Hi, let me introduce myself -
I am one of those "working class folks" you claim it is good for. And no, I do not think it is good for me at all in the short or long term. Billions in pork, billions for the wealthiest, little genuine stimulus, minimal job creation -- just a whole lotta more debt for not much in return. And an attack on my future via Social Security.

Thanks but no thanks.

19. Five words:
"I'm sorry. I was wrong."

And maybe add a few more for good measure:
"I choose not to see re-election in 2012."
