After all, who wants to disappoint 28% of the country?

Well done, leadership! :applause:

11. They'll be around
Not sure which it'll be though...

The usual "Best we can do since it's your faults for electing teabaggers"

Or the "Somebody needed to be the adult in the room, so eat your peas and SHADDUP"

Could even default to "Obviously you want President Michelle B since you're fighting this!"

30. I have heard the question (taxes specific) quoted as high as 82%
based on various polls. Wouldn't be too hard to track it down with Nate Silver & all keeping on top of this debate.

That graphic just spoke to me and after the Reid/McTurtle love fest tonight followed by the Obama Statement, called out for an airing.

7. This is gov't by consent of the monied not consent of the people.
All we've got is votes and as Rahm says, what are we gonna do with them?

They are pretty cock-sure that we won't throw them at a Social Progressive.

Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 08:33 PM by Ruby the Liberal
Keep in mind, that raises taxes on everyone, not just the $250k+ crowd as was floated.

Do be on the lookout for more hostage situations over manufactured crisis' between now and then to save "the middle class".

12. I think the baggers are going to use this & s/s marriage to make Constitutional Convention an issue
They played the amendment card in this debate, and Perry now wants a marriage amendment. Right to life amendment is always mentioned by social conservatives, and the xenophobic crowd wants birthright citizinship removed. The GOP controls a lot of state houses right now, and you only need 2/3 of the states to vote "yes" to make one happen. It's a good way to drive their base to the polls -- making sure they hit state offices as well as the federal ones.

33. 2011. The Obama tax cuts expire in 2013
Let's call them what they now are. I want to make sure people know what has gone on, so as to hold our representatives feet to the fire.

Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 11:20 PM by Recursion
And certainly not the Senate. That's why they aren't in the debt deal. They aren't even in the commission trigger, though defense cuts and (de facto, since the Bush cuts will expire without a tax reform deal) tax increases are.

35. I'm sure they're trying to, but for all the jokes about 9th-dimensional chess...
...Obama actually has time and again shown himself to be better at structural strategy than his opponents. There really is a lot more pressure against Republicans in the commission's trigger enforcement than against Democrats -- not to mention the fact that the only thing the Republicans have to offer the Democrats about tax cuts is keeping the middle class tax cuts in place, and I don't think Democrats want that enough to turn down that revenue (I think all the tax cuts should go, personally).

21. What I can't wait to hear is what's included in the $1 trillion cuts in spending
"up front." It took months to hammer out the haircut to the 2011 budget; does anyone think this new, unconstitutional super duper congress will move at the speed of light? Or have all the deals already been made?

Remember April 9? The great "shut show" is over. A deal to cut $38 billion from the 2011 Federal budget has been cut. Details here. As Washington Post columnist Dan Balz correctly notes, the "shut show" made both sides look very bad.

Edit to add - took a closer look at the unemployment chart, and just, damn.

Is that adjusted for the Clinton reconfguring of unemployment numbers (circa 1998 IIRC) that dropped a mass of people off the rolls?
