However the center is closer to the right than left is.

23. A better analogy
There are two neighbors who decide to burn each other's homes down. They both end up being pissed because their own home is torched and they are also upset that their neighbor's garage is still standing.

24. wow. you learn something new everyday. in this case, about you.
no liberal wants to burn down anything.

they want to keep the wealthy from stealing everything.

they want Wall Street to stop sniffing around social security like some pedophile at a playground.

honestly - if you think this is a valid analogy - no wonder the democrats are such piss poor leaders who don't represent the American people when fully 72% of them, across party lines, think that tax increases on the wealthy are the way to go.

so, that 72% are farther to the left then you are?

...because the internet "left" represents that 72% majority position.

25. My analogy is apt because...
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 02:50 AM by Kaleva
the far right wants to defeat all progressives, Dems, and primary the RINOs out of the party. The far left wants to defeat all teabaggers, Repubs and primary all Dinos out of the party. Anything less then complete victory for either side is considered to be a defeat.

The extremes cannot consider a tie, draw or a partial victory for what it is. It's all or nothing.

The compromise over the debt ceiling steady's the markets, most likely stops a downgrade of our nation's credit rating and prevents this nation from defaulting and that in itself is good for the entire country. But some people cannot see that.

both the internet left and internet right were pretty pissed off about it.

I'm not saying the budget deal is equivalent to the murder of 3,000 people. I'm just offering a counterexample that disproves your statement.

20. Well, it either means it's absolutely terrible (Harriet Miers)...
...or middle of the road.

The problem is that the what we need to survive as a nation is not "middle of the road". We have to turn economically left NOW, before it's too late.

And we're not going to.

We're not going to get out of NAFTA or the WTO.

We're not going to have a progressive tax system with a top marginal rate of 60%.

We're not going to tax investment income anywhere near as much as earned income.

We're not going to put protective tariffs on imported finished goods.

We're not going to break up monopolies or trusts.

We're not going to reduce our military footprint overseas.

We're not going to shift away from petroleum BEFORE there's a crisis.

We're not going to shift towards a terrorism-resistant decentralized green power infrastructure.

So we're not going to survive as a nation, at least, a peaceful, prosperous, organized nation.

36. funny how your statement is a bold-faced lie
I don't recall the right being upset about torture or extraordinary rendition or warrantless wiretapping - or maybe they have gotten upset since it's not their candidate doing it.

some people are like that - they'll excuse anything someone does if that person claims to be part of their party.

maybe it's not the far right and left that are so much alike as the far right and those who think party matters more than policy.

35. If you listened to the floor debate, maybe you'd think differently.
It's a sucky bill. And it's being forced on the Dems at virtual gunpoint. Probably isn't that bad my ass! Early childhood education programs and anti-poverty programs all have come to the chopping block. But THANK GAWD we saved SS and Medicare. Our seniors have been protected, but our future has been sold up the river.

Shut up.

38. Dear God.
It's like stepping in a pile of dog shit and/or cat shit.

Take your pick.

I suppose it could be elephant shit, but we don't have that in our neighborhood. But if we don't start revolting against the dog and cat shit, we very well could.
