2. Read the damn plan. We are NOT screwed. We got more than the republicans did.

Some of the GOOD things regarding tonight's deal

Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 10:14 PM by Tx4obama

No default.

Debt Ceiling lifted to 2013.

Up front cuts to the Defense Budget.

Did not touch Social Security. Medicare and Medicaid are still intact!

The Bush tax cuts are being left untouched, meaning they WILL expire December 31, 2012!

There is NO Balanced Budget Amendment stipulation in the new agreement.

Regarding the 'trigger':
IF the committee's recommendations are not acted upon, the trigger mechanism's mandatory spending cuts will be cuts will be split 50/50 between domestic and defense spending, and will kick in January 2013.
Social Security and Medicare beneficiaries and "low-income programs" would be exempted from those cuts.
Note: Since the GOP will not want to see defense cuts then they will make sure that there is no chance the trigger will go off!

AND the teabaggers did NOT get all the things they wanted and they are very ticked off tonight :)

12. I think that what the 'president' wants is a bit more important.
There is nothing wrong with cutting out fraud, over payments, over head, waste, etc.
It doesn't mean that they will be hurtful cuts.
And then we can get 'another' bill passed to use the money somewhere else where it will do more good.

If the US government knows for a fact this is happening, then why hasn't it been addressed before this deal? Doesn't the government just allowing this to go on seem weird to you? Why have waited to fix it?

It's funny how many archaic Republican talking points are now pragmatic, sensible Democratic talking points.

At this rate, the Welfare Queen should show up with her food stamps, fur coat, and brand new Cadillac any minute now.

18. SS and Medicaid are being attacked in a roundabout way
The COLA will be lowered, which means SS payments will be lowered. That's a cut, whether Obama and Congress want to admit it or not.

Medicare providers (doctors/hospitals) won't be paid as much. This means that fewer providers will accept Medicare patients. Old people who need medical care the most will have fewer providers. In rural areas, it can mean the difference between life and death if elderly people can't get to the nearest doctor who accepts Medicare.

And when budget negotiations begin again...we're screwed, because Obama is still talking about "entitlement reform".

46. This reminds me of a Jack Lemmon movie about a divorce.
Everything gets split down the middle.

She got the house, he got the mortgage.

She got the car, he got the payments.

She got the kids, he got the support.

He got his paycheck, she got half in alimony.

And before anyone jumps on the analogy, it was a 1960's era romantic comedy.

43. Many defenders but no defense.
Obama may be the smartest guy to be in the white house for years, but his actions sometimes defy belief. His "can't we all just get along" attitude handcuffed him from the start. Trying to put a smiley face on this by saying that medicare and social security are saved is plain nuts. No one would dare touch them. To think that the Tea Party corporate masters would allow a default is crazy. They are the dam bondholders and they are not going to take a hit on their assets. One phone call from wall street or the Kochs and the votes switch.
You have to hand the rethugs credit. They suckered the media and the Dems perfectly.. First the Paul Ryan plan to create fear and buy the media spot light, then the wretched political opera of the Balance Budget Amendment. A complete farce. There will be apologists galore.
Instead of coming out swinging, and naming names he decided to go along to get along. Same thing happened with the health care fight. We were in a fight while he was compromising.
Besides which the idea that we have to fight for a program that will provide me with about $1100 dollars a month after 46 years of conributions is insane and just goes to show how the media has done a great job for its corporate masters.
We should be fighting for a living wage for all, public health care for all and pulling back the military not playing defense all of the time. If you only play defense you will give up points eventually and never score any.
I always reccomend destruction of al TV's, but I know the vast majority of Americans are addicted to it so maybe the best we could hope for is to ask them to turn it off and think once in a while.

25. Its not a bad deal at all
if you look at what the repugs wanted, and especially what the 'baggers wanted, they got next to nothing. The schedule of the cuts, and the inclusion of defense spending in the cuts, pretty much allows them to be done without too much impact on discretionary spending. I think the congressional panel could well be focused on fraud, waste and loopholes, as has long been on the president's agenda.

53. Not at all - its a surprisingly good deal
virtually what the president asked for in April, and the polar opposite of the Ryan plan. Its a very favorable compromise:

it pushes the debt ceiling out to 2013

bundles defense cuts in with the rest

leaves the big social programs untouched

and requires nothing up front. Its on a mild 10 year schedule.

And it establishes a congressional panel to focus on the waste, fraud, and loopholes that have been a part of Obama's plan since the campaign. Like the last budget bill - where everyone's hair was on fire over NPR and Planned Parenthood - all the fears were unfounded and a good piece of legislation was gained.

This is essentially Reid's plan.
That's why Reid put voting on his plan off until this Sunday.
But, he couldn't even muster enough votes to break cloture, because the Republicans under McConnell ALL voted to keep from discussing the bill on the Senate floor, so they had to shelf this plan until later.

Luke, I'm your father.

No, you can't be!

Search your feelings, Luke, you know it to be true.

No, that's not what I meant. I don't have your nose.

Oh, you noticed that.

Yeah, plus you sound like a black man.

Oh, you noticed that, too.

Yeah, and Mom told me my father was only 2'6" tall.

She did? I told her to never tell you that your father was . .

You don't mean . .

I can't find a way to tell you that your real father was . .

Are you saying . .

I think you know now who I'm referring to . .

But, you haven't confirmed it yet, so . .

Do I have to say his name before you will believe he is your real father or . .

I think you should, to eliminate any doubt, because . .

Luke, your father is . .

Yes, go on . .

I don't know how to say this, but . .

Yes, yes, go on . .

Your real father is Yoda!

That can't be! He's a freaking midget!

True, but you are rather small yourself, Luke.

Yet, I don't have his ears.

That is also true, but you noticed that your sister didn't have his ears either.

You mean . .

Yes, your sister . .

Are you referring to . .

Yes, you know I am . .

You're talking about Princess Leah, aren't you . .

Yes! Finally this is all out in the open. Oh my god what a relief.

Wow, so that's why it felt like I was kissing my sister when I kissed her.

No, you felt that way because you're gay.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*clash clash clash clash*

It's so easy to draw you into a fight, Luke.

I'm going to kill you, you fucking asshole!!

*clash clash clash clash*

All too easy.

*clash clash clash clash*

Now who's pissed off, old man?
