... except repeal healthcare reform, retain the mandate, making the fines even stiffer if one doesn't have coverage, and reviving debtors prisons.

6. that's not the problem
it's that people like me, disappointed as i am, are going to have to try to convince our friends to vote for Obama.

how well do you think that's going to go?

and it's not that some of my friends will vote against Obama --a lot of them just won't vote.

i've said all along that centrism is morally bankrupt and when the only thing you can stand for is to be for what's between two sides, you have the moral authority of a facilitator.

i didn't vote to have a facilitator in chief.

We saw in Massachusetts, in the January 2010 special election for US Senate, how difficult GOTV is when people are feeling alienated or ignored.

19. well, that and the DNC was calling people like me 72 hrs before the election
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 12:42 AM by CreekDog
asking me to help elect Martha Coates, but then asking me not to go to her website and contribute, but instead, wait for a mail in pledge form that i'd return with a check enclosed.

because that's what they did.

and when i contributed through her website, the DNC called me annoyed that i'd broken my promise by not returning the pledge form with a check.

even though, i contributed through her website just minutes after they called saying how important it was to help Coates.

this feels so different than my experience with the 2008 campaign. which experience reflects who i'm really dealing with?

34. Yes, but if they're all completely unacceptable... for instance, say I was a monarchist.
I would clearly find the whole lot of them unacceptable. Now say I'm a New Deal liberal or progressive civil libertarian or supporter of social safety net. Whereas before such ideology would be represented at some stage of the playing field, they aren't even pretending any more.

Abdicating responsibility to others by not voting is a valid choice.

55. You're right. By not voting, I'd be placing the responsibility on you to defend our rulers' actions
Since, as you yourself claim, the actions of anyone else who might have been elected to the post would be no better, and therefore there is no real democratic choice.

Reminds me of the time the Simpsons visited the Sundance Film Festival:

Marge: I get it! Every title means the opposite of what it means! Then I guess I'll love...Chernobyl Graveyard!

(Marge goes in and immediately comes out.)

Marge: I didn't.

That's not hyperbole.

I am simply tired of this whole "we lose even when we win" BS.

I am tired of being told criticising Obama means I want Bachmann to become President.

I am tired of this admin treating Liberals like some whiney inconvenience and not what they really are... it's BASE. The one 's who worked to get Obama elected in the first place.

I tired of capitulation being confused with compromise. I would been ok with some cuts to medicaid and medicare if there had been revenue increases. If the Rich finally got taxed some. But that didn't happen.

And I am really tired of being called a ringer. I voted for him in 2008. I walked door to door to get others to do the same. So please don't act like you know me.

43. So far Obama looks like the only choice.
There is not a single Republican on the campaign trail that I would not walk on broken glass to prevent them from getting into the White House. Romney seems the least crazy, but he is even more pliable than Obama and it isn't because he wants compromise it's because he is spineless. The rest are just to awful to contemplate.
