Where is the powerful left wing movement to counter the teabaggers?
It has been repeatedly told to eat its peas. Those who closed their mouths when the peas were passed were immediately set upon by roving bands of peapodders.

I Am Done With Peas.

I'm breaking it out to start shooting some dried ones at our sweet pea of a great Repug friend, our POTUS.

3. We need Buffet and Soros (or some other billionaire) to actually finance the damn thing, like
Koch did with the Tea Party. I mean, the Tea Party was pure astroturf that - surprise, surprise! - actually caught on. But first they needed a rich daddy to build it for them. We need a rich daddy.

never give anything for free. I'm skeptical.

Koch needed the tea party. The Buffets and Soros don't need us.

4. Where is the nationwide broadcast and print propaganda machine for the left?
The Teapublicans were enabled in 2010 by the Murdoch empire. If you can't reach a majority of American households with a 24/7 drumbeat, you can't get real liberals elected. The right wing figured out a long time ago that door to door petitions and door knock campaigns were a poor substitute for control of the media in this country.

5. If we had a principled leader, we would have the bully pulpit.
Instead, we get exhorted to eat our peas.

9. Stinky, GWB was an unprincipled leader with the bully pulpit and
a media mouthpiece and a fully stocked CONGRESSIONAL contingent willing to march us off the cliff. Right now I'd say we have someone out there being asked to shoulder it all with very little support.

10. Obama is too timid. Too aloof. Too cold. Too uncaring. Too dispassionate.
He may be none of those things. But he APPEARS to be all of them.

The truth of this manufacturered crisis is amazingly clear. Where was he, defending the side of reason? He was NO WHERE. He did what he always does. He waited to led.

He is not a leader.

GWB was no leader either. Except he was. He had followers because he embraced cheney's principles and was their spokesmodel.

14. Amen. I've seen my grocery bill go up by 30% in the last six months. I've
seen my neighbors lose their jobs by the scores. And I've seen a President I voted for seemingly not caring a bit about any of it. I've had it. I've had it. I've had it.

28. Yes we on the left are a sizable constituency
but we do not have political power and we are marginalized rather than embraced.

Do we have any usefulness to the Democratic party other than we always vote for them? Not feelin it. We don't get much back except prevention of the worst conservative atrocities. That's all we're good for.

So I don't think you can compare the Baggers to the Left. Not equivalent. Baggers have a place at the table. Liberals do not have a place at the table.

11. The Teabagger "movement" is a bunch of corporate astroturf.
Why aren't fans of America's Got Talent or Harry Potter given the same amount of political influence? They stem from the same source.

The Red Scare, Taft-Hartley stomped the shit out of the commies & socialists.

Yet the embers still smolder and we can work that into a blaze.

17. Where is the media that is going to discuss the Progressive Caucus?
They also put out a plan - a fair plan.

Not one bit of coverage. But every demand the teabaggers wanted was televised. It was news.
Jan Schakowsky was trying to get media attention with the Progressive plan, but only a few people even bothered to discuss it.
That is what we need to figure out, how to help the true progressives in Congress have a louder voice.

I HOPE (ugh - I'm starting to despise that word) that Current TV really steps it up and becomes that voice for liberals.

Many of us thought that would be happening.

It hasn't. Instead we have a timid leader who is much happier going along to get along.

Eat your peas.

who is much more on their side than not. We will find out if the Tea Party "won" in the 2012 elections. Let's gather some real evidence about where purity takes us. They may have gotten some policies they want, but they have also earned a reputation as whiners and stubborn children. This isn't even close to over.

22. Nah...

Powerful left-wing movements don't come from "real politic", from voting for the lesser of two evils, from supporting war, from austerity, from slicing and dicing political advantage, from hanging on to the coat-tails of professional politicians, from adopting the slogans of the ruling-class, from shilling for the government, from echoing the platitudes of think tanks and television commentators, from identifying with "principles" which have no meaning for the majority of the population, from individualism, from putting preference over reality, from making up our "own individual" ideology and world view, from elitism or from ignoring history.

No kind of "left-wing" anything comes from those things. Despair and escape fantasies come from those things... before an inevitable repetition of precisely the same cycle.

23. The only powerful left wing movement that can counter
this shit is Marxism. Revolutionary socialism. But everybody (even "liberals") are just SOOOOOO scared of the Reds that they'll let the fascists take over. Better dead than Red, right?

Nothing will stop this slide into fascism until people wake up to this fact. As long as people take revolutionary socialism off the table, we STAY on the road to fascism.
