Mr. President: There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road but Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 08:42 AM by WI_DEM
your constant pursuit of the middle/independent vote shows weakness and is turning off the base of support that got you elected. I wonder if young voters are as enthusiastic about voting for you as they were in 2008 when you really did represent hope. I doubt it. I can see them going back to their former apathetic voting habits.

Good luck in 2012--we will all need it.

1. So bellowed Jim Hightower
One of the great characters of the American Populist Left - or what remains of it.

We're between a rock and a hard place.

It is they who elect presidents these days, with the two big parties evenly split. Preaching to the choir is easier, but it does not win elections. I'm not really worried about 2008......it was three years ago!

3. without all kinds of coalitions he wouldn't be president. He still needs to show
that he stands for something once in a while.

11. Well then why did he not run as an Independent? The fact that
he needed the Democratic Party to even think about running, and votes from every non Republican possible to win. Without liberal Democratic votes, he'd not be President. He would not have won the Oregon Primary without our Greens who voted for him. He lost the CA primary, of course.
The thing about 'independents' around here anyway, is that they are not impressed with making patty cake with the right. They are impressed with principles, courage, and yep, independence in a politician. So a 'centrist' is very unappealing to the sort of independents we have here, in a State he took twice. They do not see themselves as 'part Tea Party and part Democrat'. They are independent. And they despise those who triagnulate their way through life.

5. We turned so god-damned very far to the right, that now the extreme right looks like the middle.

6. And millions of decent, average people who vote.
He is the President for everyone, not just the Internet extreme left.

Basic politics.

7. So liberals and the left are not decent, average people who vote? Interesting dichotomy there.

8. No, that's not what I said at all. I'm a left-leaning Liberal.
And yes, I consider myself decent.

Nice try at spin though.

12. Sure sounded that way. Also it reminded me of Obama
telling the GLBT community that the ex gay hate preachers message was in agreement with 'good, decent and moral people'. It holds up them as moral, and us as immoral. He said good people agree with the ex gays. Bachmann agrees with them. Do you agree that those are good, decent people, those 'ex gays' working in the US and Uganda and Ghana? I sure don't.

13. If that's the case then why doesn't he
strongly support positions that a majority of the people hold? Like ending these fucking wars, taxing the rich, etc (whatever that chart the bvar has as his sig line). At least then he would draw a CLEAR demarcation between himself and the Republican nutjobs.

9. And the only thing on both sides of that road are muddy ditches.
Full of poisonous oily water, empty beer cans, and litter.
