U.S. recovers ‘narco submarine’ with 7.5 tons of cocaine

By David Edwards

The U.S. Coast Guard has released video of a so-called “narco submarine” that was recovered last month with 7.5 tons of cocaine, worth an estimated $180 million.

During a July 13 confrontation with the Coast Guard, the vessel sank. On July 26, they recovered it with the help of the Honduran Navy and FBI dive teams.

Narco submarines are responsible for nearly one-third of all cocaine in the U.S.

3. It appears that the Coast Guard undervalues their finds, unlike the DEA.
15,000 lbs at $180 million comes out to be around $26 a gram by my math. I'd imagine that would be rather cheap. Often times the DEA will seize a large amount of cannabis and claim its street value to be somewhere between $20 and $30 a gram for dirt schwag, which is insane. But hey, maybe our insane drug war has brought the per gram of cocaine price to under that of bud.

7. I don't know how they'd determine that, but "narco submarines" aren't exactly new.
It's the natural evolution of drug trafficking.
