Boy, am I lucky in this District to have a real Democratic Representative in Washington.

I suspect this means most of the Progressive Caucus is also going to go against the Administration Cave Dwellers and the Catfood Commissioners.

Knock wood, man. :kick: :applause: :woohoo: :patriot:

1. Did he say it publicly?
The Hill still shows him as unknown/undecided

4. I called myself, and the nice staffer lady said he was voting against the Compromise.
I thanked her with great sincerity. She seemed as glad to say it as was I to hear it.

8. I think the decision is made independently and for entirely different reasons.
No, but I know what will happen if this thing gets passed and we all get stampeded into this atrocity of a Bill.

I'd rather take my chances with a Federal Reserve bailout of the Treasury tomorrow rather than the Catfood Commish 2 in November, thank you very much.

9. What's so ****ing atrocious? Seriously
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 01:44 PM by Recursion
Oooh.... 3 trillion of cuts backloaded so far into the future that they're not going to happen (making a "cut" 8 years from now is meaningless and everybody knows that). Entitlements sacrosanct. Defense spending not. Bush tax cuts doomed. What in the hell has people so riled up?

10. You know, $700B in domestic discretionary cuts may not seem like a lot to you, but it
is to those millions of us Americans who are entering a double-dip recession with our houses and futures in jeopardy. This is not the time to start cutting federal programs. This is also no time to put Medicare in the hands of a Central Committee of the Politburo for mandatory cuts in November. I would not give any committee of 12 the power to mandate further up or down cuts in discretionary and entitlement programs.

No, that is not the way I want to see the game played. No Deal.

12. You mean the cuts that are all 6-8 years down the road?
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 02:09 PM by Recursion
They'll. Never. Happen. A cut made against a future Congress's budget is not really a cut, which is why people are always so willing to do it and they never actually are made.

And while you may be fine with for-profit hospitals jacking up prices at three times the rate of inflation, I'm happy to see Congress finally putting its foot down on that and limiting growth to provider reimbursements.

14. This isn't about Medicare cost containment - if they wanted to do that, they'd quadruple the
compliance and enforcement staff at the HHS IG's office.

Where are the curves that you're basing "all 6-8 years down the road" on?

15. Right. But losing Unemployment Benefits would have been a walk in the park earlier when the Bush Tax
Cuts were set to expire.
