NEVER negotiate with terrorists. It only encourages them.
You know what they say: Never negotiate with terrorists. It only encourages them.

These last few months, much of the country has watched in horror as the Tea Party Republicans have waged jihad on the American people. Their intransigent demands for deep spending cuts, coupled with their almost gleeful willingness to destroy one of America’s most invaluable assets, its full faith and credit, were incredibly irresponsible. But they didn’t care. Their goal, they believed, was worth blowing up the country for, if that’s what it took.

..................

For now, the Tea Party Republicans can put aside their suicide vests. But rest assured: They’ll have them on again soon enough. After all, they’ve gotten so much encouragement.

2. I know it is popular to speak in a language many Americans can relate to
as in calling what the Tea Party does as "jihad" - because that goes well with calling them terrorists (since in America all terrorists are Muslims and speak Arab, therefore they engage in "jihad") and that plays into the last decade of fear/prejudice/irrational and criminal reactions...However, why not say the Tea Party is water-boarding America? Or the Tea Party is torturing America?

Is it because if "terrorists" do those things then America is also a terrorist? And that would just totally ruin the analogy.

Point being...and there is more than one...

You can call the Tea Party terrorists without invoking "jihad" (Muslims, Arabs, 911, the war on terror, fear, fear, fear,)....McVeigh blew up a building too. He was neither Muslim nor Arab and I'm betting he didn't think in terms of "jihad" - but just plain old destruction and death. Certainly, he had a 'cause' - that he was willing to kill for...and, obviously, 'cause' and "jihad" are roughly the same in that regard.

Still, the imagery chosen says more about the audience being appealed to does it not?

Apparently, if Americans think "terrorists" then Arab terms must be used. Almost as if terrorism was some foreign concept to America..alien to our make-up. Though evidence would indicate that America (and some Americans) speaks terrorism fluently ...and in English.

So why not just call the Tea Party what they are, using the terms that tie them to the US? Domestic terrorists. Spawned and created in America, with an ideology influenced by American arrogance and ignorance.

I don't need "911" imagery to understand that the Tea Party is made up of terrorists. Or that they are attacking the country. I don't need the use of terms like "jihad" and "suicide vests" (all words that have become associated with concepts not seen as American) - when terrorism was very much a part of American life prior to "911". Clinic bombings, the murder of doctors, OK City, anti-government militia groups....

I know that sometimes an article is just an article and analogy is just a handy way to get a point across...

Still...I find it interesting.

But that's probably just me.

5. Oh, overlook me. I'm just in one of my moods.
Where I'm more inclined to dissect words and phrases.

Sometimes, a dream is just a dream.

4. "much of the country has watched in horror" Then why did they elect them in 2010?
I know the answer - the Republicans promised "jobs jobs jobs."

But lots of people predicted this. Lawrence O'Donnell said on election night that the results put raising the debt ceiling in jeopardy.

12. So you play chicken and let them shoot the hostage they're willing to shoot?
Al Franken spoke to this in his statement yesterday to vote "Yes".

To paraphrase him, the person who cares more about protecting the Full Faith and Credit of the US (obviously the President) has the tougher issue.

It's simple: What do you do when your opposition is willing to do more damage than you are?

I don't see why the President is taking so much shit for NOT wanting to destroy the US economy. It makes no sense.
