Use of a drone for commercial purposes appears to be against the law. But News Corp. publication The Daily operates a news-gathering drone aircraft. Google also operates a drone, apparently to help make its maps. Hobby use, needless waste of energy and potential violation of privacy that it is, is permitted.

But here's where it gets really creepy: Drones can hack cell phones and wi-fi networks.

The FAA — whose staff is currently working without pay — has opened an investigation into Murdoch's drone. I wonder how that's going
