2. I know - when are people going to learn that the Constitution gives him no other choice?
Edited on Thu Aug-04-11 03:48 PM by UrbScotty
Just as it gave Obama no choice on this debt ceiling deal.

A bill must pass BOTH the House AND the Senate before it becomes law. Easy to understand, but it's shameful how many people have forgotten basic civics!

4. The truth about Republicans is...
When they have you by the balls, they know how to squeeze.

Democrats, not so much.

3. Wonder what he gave up to get a deal?
:scared:

He is probably going to let them choose which "democrats" to put on the Supercommittee.

Republicans aren't going to give up ANYTHING for nothing. They just aren't.

5. When I hear the word 'DEAL' my heart begins to beat rapidly
The only way it could be a good deal is because the ReThugs didn't want to stay and fight, they wanted to get back to their paid vacations.

14. And if he does release details, and cave is not part of the issue, then what????
Edited on Thu Aug-04-11 05:25 PM by FrenchieCat
move the goalpost and save the Cave calls for whatever you deem deserves it next?

Wish FDR wouldn't have cave in excluding African-Americans from Social Security.....
and that was a big one....but of course, no one else cared except for the
African Americans. Odd though, they still ended up voting for the re-election FDR in large margins.....of course, in the states that allowed them to vote.

7. Could Obama at least issue an executive order to the airlines
ordering them to sequester the tax revenue that they are pocketing, pending the extension? Or would that usurp the role of Congress?

8. And what was the nature of that deal? They had
a House Bill, but it had problems for the Senate. Maybe he got the Republicans to drop some of the stuff that was holding it up in the Senate. Deals work both ways. I'd like to know what the deal was, exactly, before I draw any conclusions about it.

11. Since the GOP is insisting keeping the Senate technically in session
to avoid any recess appointments, a direct shot at my old buddy Richard Cordray, Reid can force the issue...

the deal only extends through mid-September, which means the handful of GOP provisions that have stalled progress on a longer-term reauthorization will be on the front burner when Congress returns next month.

18. Not neccessarily
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44023626/ns/politics-capitol_hill/#.TjsnclvTAyF">From here:

The bill includes language that gives the transportation secretary the authority to continue subsidized service to the 13 communities if he decides it's necessary.

NBC News reported that the Department of Transportation will release a letter shortly spelling out those rural community waivers. "Only LaHood can decide how he will use his waiver authority," said Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Reid.

Democrats said they expect the administration to effectively waive or negate the cuts.

"I just know that the White House has provided assurances that they (the communities) will be held harmless," said a Senate Democratic leadership aide who asked not to be named because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the deal.
