Pryor Announces Support For Repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell: 'I Accept The Pentagon's Recommendations'

From his statement:

On many previous occasions, I have said that I would oppose repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell until I had heard from our servicemen and women regarding this policy. I have now carefully reviewed all of the findings, reports, and testimony from our armed forces on this matter and I accept the Pentagon's recommendations to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I also accept the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs' commitment that this policy can be implemented in a manner that does not harm our military's readiness, recruitment, or retention. We have the strongest military in the world and we will continue to do so by ensuring our troops have the resources necessary to carry out their missions. Therefore, I support the 2011 Defense Authorization Act that passed the Senate Armed Services Committee and will support procedural measures to bring it to a vote this year.

both who have said they will support as long as procedure is correct (what ever the hell that means!).

And honestly we would be screaming bloody murder if the GOP put something that contentious in an unamendable defense authorization, too.

They put it there becaue almost every other piece of progressive legislation that congress tried to pass was crushed bu unending gentlemans fillibusters and anonymous holds and every other bit of trickery that could be imagined.

For all the harm it did, his desire to get re-elected in MA in 2012 (ha!) means we can have this as a debatable motion.

have both said they will vote for it. The voted no for the cloture last week because they were being good little solders and stopping everything but the tax bill. Now that that has been done, they may be able to take it up.

Don't know about Kirk.

He wants to get re-elected in 2012 (ha! good luck...) so he has to listen to actual Massholes at this point. Also, what local Teabaggers there were are mostly of the New Hampshire mold and just want less taxes and spending, not the government worrying about who's sleeping with whom.

The one that didn't pass was part of the Defense Authorization Bill.

It's always possible some other legislation was part of the tax deal compromise, but due to politics involved it could not be announced as such. If so I imagine we will eventually find out cause someone will eventually peep.

Because the whole thing was unamendable. I don't look for the full DA to pass this session, personally.

At this point there is absolutely nothing for Obama to gain by vetoing so I am going to assume you are joking.

However I do think that there is a decent chance that an attempt at fillibuster may be made. Let us see if Liberman and the Repubs are willing to vote for cloture.

But with Lieberman I will believe it when I see it.

I trust Joe implicitly, I mean everything he has done has been for the democrats hasn't it.
