Five Scriptures You Won't Hear at Rick Perry's Pray Event.

I saw this posted on another forum and thought I'd share it. Here is one of the five: "Worship by those who neglect the poor is offensive to God

"I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me… Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!" (Amos 5:21-24)

The prophet Amos chastised the religion of his day for praying to God while mistreating people. Texas leads the nation in citizens who are uninsured, who work for minimum wage, and who die from unsafe working conditions on construction sites. Our state has the widest gap between rich and poor of any in the union. If the governor wants to call us to repentance it should begin with our real sins against the poor not the imaginary sins dreamed up by his friends."

and says Christians much help the poor. This would be off-putting to Perry's rich evangelical supporters.

They always say I'm taking it too literally or some other excuse.

Wow all the poor people hating freep churches across America are a raging offense to God!

Of course they don't care because their real god is $$$$$. You betcha!

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Not in the GOP talking points.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Of course, that could mean just about anything. And that whole "the last shall be first and the first shall be last," why that's just crazy talk!

"They were arrogant and spoiled; they had everything they needed and still refused to help the poor and needy." Ezekiel 16:49

Isaiah: 'For the scoundrel will speak like a scoundrel and will hatch evil in his heart; he is an impostor in all his actions, and in his words a liar even to the LORD; he starves the hungry of their food and refuses drink to the thirsty. The villain's ways are villainous and he devises infamous plans to ruin the poor with his lies and deny justice to the needy.'

"It is hard to kick against the pricks .."

"But if ... evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones..." (Deuteronomy 22:20,21)


oops - that is biblical law.

"Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common. ...There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet; and distribution was made to each as any had need."

Has anyone ever heard a sermon preached on this scripture?

are so selective in their Bible scriptures.

It's like they pretend 90% of it doesn't exist, and focus solely on the parts that are judgmental.

I heard on the radio (NPR) today that the group that sponsored this faithfest thinks the 1st Amendment only applies to Christians

And when thou mayest pray, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites, because they love in the synagogues, and in the corners of the broad places -- standing -- to pray, that they may be seen of men; verily I say to you, that they have their reward.


Funny how the Charismatics forget about this verse.

What as miss a chance to show off pious behavior, for all to see.
