So, did Perry's Prayer-A-Palooza work or what?
Are we saved? Is there some sort of statute of limitations on how long credit could be taken? 30 days? Maybe less? Was this a prayer for the economy or a prayer for power? What would Jesus do? Did it work? I don't know what I'm supposed be looking for? Will these people admit that these events are bogus and don't work?

2. I haven't looked into this event, was it a prayer for the country or was it rain?
Did people have to pay for this thing? That would seem hypocritical.

7. Apparently it was an all-purpose "pray for everything and the kitchen sink" kind of hootenanny.
http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/politics/prayer-event-draws-crowd-controversy

"His (God's) agenda is not a political agenda," Perry told the crowd. "His agenda is a salvation agenda. He is a wise, wise God. He is wise enough not to be affiliated with any political party. He is wise enough not to be affiliated with any man-made institution."

:puke: :puke: :puke:

If he really believed in God, he'd have been ducking for cover from the lightning headed his way after spouting that load.

Read the rest at your own risk.

10. Wow! The crazy is just oozing out.
I'm not against people praying or prayer at all, but I feel Perry doesn't have to be such a showboating weirdo and pray in private like it says to in the bible.

36. No, it was free
and even being free, they got a very small number of commitments ahead of time. I think the number I heard was 6000 or 7000, but more people apparently showed up on Saturday.

Of course, that doesn't mean they won't "pay" later in one way or another.

39. Of course
I forgot about the "offering" and I'm sure there were plenty of venders there as well. I wonder where such an "offering" would go. Being it was a prayer event, I'd think it couldn't go to a PAC. I can't think of any legal way they could accept an offering except to pay for the actual event.

15. And to make matters worse, a second dry spell comes in two months
to Texas. All the while, Governor Dumbass will be putting on phony public displays of faith. Texas under Perry don't look to get any liquid soon, I suspect God is too upstanding to piss on Texas, or at least the place Perry lives in.

Dry weather.

I have friends in south Texas that say they've only had 1/2 inch of rain since last October.

I wonder if the state is trying to keep a lid on how dry this year has been.

He has failed. News has gotten out to other parts of the country. We are seeing photos of the devastation and watching Perry's ineffectual response. Pray that jackass Perry wins the republican nomination, so that Texas can vote blue for President for the first time since LBJ.

5. I watched part of it, but never did see Perry.
It was basically praying for the country, lots of singing the same words over and over again for 10 minutes or so at a time. Prayers were yelled, more than spoken. I was surprised at the diversity...many Blacks and Hispanics. They said there were something like 20K rather than 8,000. Lots of empty seats. It was hot, so some may have come in to sit in the cool a/c.

Hope it isn't something Rick Perry prayed for.

21. Green Llama. I picked it up in Hilmar, at the dairy festival they hold there.
You have to go to the Hilmar dairy fest, they have buckets of chocolate and regular milk in big ice buckets, all for free!

They had llamas and goats and other critters!

30. Absolutely nothing inconsistent there.
I, too, am a Christian - an active one - and strongly believe in the separation of church and state. I don't want religion meddling in the government any more than I want the government meddling in religious matters.

This crap from the teabaggers about not allowing naturalization of Muslims, or not allowing any more mosques to be built......essentially attempting to ban Islam from society, in essence, is, in my opinion, as un-American as it gets! Who's next? Jews? Mormons? UU? ....Very, very distressing.

Which religions will we allow to dictate their own ideas of morality to the government? No Judaism? No Muslim? No Mormon? Christianity ONLY? That's what Perry basically said yesterday!

OK - rant over ------ for now, anyway.

26. It got press attention: 200 reporters showed up. The Westboro wackos smelled media and showed
up, hoping for attention. I guess Governor Brownback is supporting Perry's presidential bid, since he dropped in. Hard to know how many other people came: I haven't seen many informative photos from the stadium and estimates vary widely:

30,000
almost 30,000
22,000
20,000
15,000
more than 8,000

28. Actually the Bible (Jesus) has something to say about such spectacles
Quotation from Matthew;

Matthew 6:5 - 7

5. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites : for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Jesus says you must definitely not pray as the hypocrites pray.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen : for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Yes it seems Jesus was not big on public prayer spectacles that sound like Mr. Perry's. Of course those who promote public prayer ignore the Bible.
