Qatari plane supplies ammunition to Libya rebels

MISRATA, Libya, August 6 (Reuters) - A Qatari plane made a quick stop in the rebel-held Libyan city of Misrata on Saturday to offload ammunition destined for rebel fighters, sources with knowledge of the flight said.

Officials at the airport acknowledged a Qatari plane landed at Misrata airport but declined to reveal details of its contents.

"The plane offloaded six pick-up trucks which were packed with ammunition and minutes later it flew off again," said one source, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Another source showed Reuters a photo of a plane shortly after its departure with "Qatar" written on underside of the fuselage.

Libyan rebels are ready - but lack ammunition

Rebel officials don’t understand why Nato doesn’t step up air strikes, writes MICHAEL GEORGY in Kabaw, Libya

LIBYAN REBELS surrounding Muammar Gadafy’s last major stronghold in the Western Mountains region are hungry for the kill. There’s just one problem – not enough ammunition.

3. UNSC states can implement the embargo how they wish.
They'll never admit to knowing about it beforehand (we're not fools, and of course they do, but yeah).

The aid ships to Misrata in late March early June were filled with fighters and weapons. NATO just turned a blind eye.

This is why some people hate R2P because by definition R2P is taking a side in a war, indeed, R2P really means the end of civil war as we know it, because we take a side.

4. I bet they can be persuaded to pay for it

It seems like an outsized mission for a country roughly the size of Connecticut. Only 1.7 million people live in Qatar, many are temporary foreign workers. But the country is rich with natural gas reserves and also owns Al Jazeera, the most influential news channel in the Arab world.

Blake Hounshell, the managing editor of Foreign Policy magazine who lives in the Qatari capital, Doha, says the Qataris have been a major supplier of humanitarian aid to rebel-held areas during the conflict in Libya.
