A few words from Jesus on public prayer spectacles such as those promoted by Governor Perry.
Would Jesus have preferred the participants of Mr. Perry's public prayer fest take it home in private? I quote:

Quotation from Matthew;

Matthew 6:5 - 7

5. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites : for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Jesus says you must definitely not pray as the hypocrites pray.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen : for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Yes it seems Jesus was not big on public prayer spectacles that sound like Mr. Perry's. Of course those who promote public prayer ignore the Bible they claim to source for inspiration.

1. Part of the public display is to get a job if you don't have one & to ward off lay-off if you do.

"At will" employment enables lots of stuff that your office of equal employment opportunity DOES NOT address in the slightest.

6. Not sure Jesus was a Republican, he seemed to favor poor people over the rich.
That is not exactly a Republican value.

to keep company with "publicans" and other sinners. I suppose that repeating their "publican" behaviors could render them "re-publicans".

On edit, one of the definitions of "publican" is tax collector. This could get interesting.

Hmmmm. . .

14. If Jesus appeared to the modern Republican party,
not only would they fail to recognize him, but they'd execute him all over again. (Especially if he turned up in Texas.)

8. Which Bible do Republicans read?
I'm not a practicing Christian but I (and many other DUers) seem to know more about the Ten Commandments
and sayings of Jesus than any RWer I've seen or heard.

9. My wife is a Christian
And she said what Perry is doing is ludicrous. She's a Democrat like myself, but not as liberal. She can have streaks of conservative in her, but I can usually explain the liberal side of the situation to open her mind to the more humane position.
