John Thomas Schieffer, known as Tom Schieffer (born October 4, 1947), is an American diplomat who served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2005 to 2009 and as U.S. Ambassador to Australia from 2001 to 2005. Schieffer is a friend and former business partner of President George W. Bush. He is the younger brother of Bob Schieffer, a CBS News reporter and host of Face the Nation. Currently, he oversees the operations of the Los Angeles Dodgers on behalf of the Commissioner of Baseball.

2. I didn't see it, but overall Schieffer is fine

He's a remnant of the day when journalists were actually journalists, and were more interested in getting information out than grandstanding.

On those times when he has been an opinionator, he generally has been center kinda-left, again old school kind of liberal.

He's from Texas. I wouldn't tar him with whatever his brother might be.

Maybe he screwed up with Graham, but in general, I think we need more like him than less.
