Has the NRA lobby convinced M$Greedia not to cover
these mass slaughters extensively - they rarely receive coverage these days - just passing coverage. I remember when killing cops, killing your family and other mass killings received 24 hour coverage.

And what about that NOLA Danziger bridge verdict and that horrific hate crime in Mississippi.

1. Tanking economies tend to hog the headlines.
Plus there's still the propaganda blitz about the martyred heroes in the Chinook. Stories about murderous police have never been high on the list of MSM coverage.

Mass killings of family & strangers have occurred for decades. It was only recently with the ascendancy of anti-gun lobby's influence and the 24 hr. news cycle that these things became major national news. I would suggest an in depth perusal of vintage crime reports which can be done through back issues of popular detective magazines 1920-1970 in order to put spree killers in perspective.

2. They got bigger fish to fry
as in economies

They should cover them... but on this I will give them a partial pass.

4. What's to cover?
It's been on the front page of every major news website since yesterday (even, and again you force me to wash down my mouse, Fox news).

What would "extensive" coverage be in the day after a shooting? There's just not that much to report, other than the facts of the shooting itself. Several websites have links to video of neighbors talking about the shootings, the shooter, and the victims.

If your real underlying question is "why aren't we talking more about gun control", that's a different question. SCOTUS has affirmed that the second amendment applies to individuals, and overturned both the DC and Chicago bans on handgun ownership. There are hundreds of millions of guns in the hands of private citizens. The best selling rifle right now is the AR-15. Most states now allow concealed carry of a handgun. Despite all this, the number of people being killed by guns isn't going up in any statistically significant way. The Justice Department, which had originally supported the "assault weapon ban" concluded that the ban had no effect on crime. If you want to talk about gun control, then you'd better at least have an opening position that would be constitutional and not impact the millions of law abiding gun owners in the US.
