Oh brother. CNN sends out alert about the DOW dropping 450 points.
Never mind that it's back to a 405 pt drop. And who knows where it will be at 4pm Eastern? They just have keep things stirred up. I'm so tired of media hyping everything except for real news that their corporate masters insist they ignore.

9. Thank you for understanding. They alert every 50 points, but not for bull runs.

There's another 90 minutes left. And now it's under a 500 loss.

6. -525 DOW
Even the Federal Reserve's Plunge Protection Team may not be able to salvage today's sell-off.

Unfortunately, Pres. Obama didn't say anything in his remarks that would indicate any bold economic changes to get us out of this mess.

"We always will be a triple 'A' country."

Oh, brother.

8. About an hour ago, Ali Velshi disagreed with other CNN Talking Heads..
He said that this was not the worst day for Pres Obama, that Ali remembered the crash of 2008..

and said that Canada now has a very strong economy.. and had been downgraded and recovered its AAA status..

Wolffe Blitzer wasn't too pleased....

12. I'd rather see a drop in the DOW than cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
The DOW contains money that people have saved. The DOW goes up and down.

Social Security and Medicare are the rock bottom reserves for millions of people many of whom have little else and had no chance to save.

Young people who are still able to work will rebuild their financial well being with hard work and wise policies, but elderly people and the disabled who are poor are stuck and for the most will never be able to work themselves to prosperity.

We went through some really tough times when we were young, times when the jobs in our fields dried up. The early 1980s were really tough in Europe. We survived and adapted. Younger people even in their 40s can do that.

But once you are over 65, the likelihood that you will recover from an economic downturn is pretty remote. So, you end up relying on Social Security and Medicare.

That is why I think that it is morally very wrong and foolish to even discuss cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits -- especially if those cuts are to take place in the future when our society may be quite different.

The stock market will decline and recover. It's happened many times before.
