This is ALL about cutting Medicare and Social Security. Read carefully what S&P had to say, they talk about cutting entitlements over and over again. Obama's foreign/defense policy is probably even more aggressive than Bush's, so from his point of view there really isn't any more room for Defense cuts.

My guess is that behind the scenes the administration is pushing Reid really hard to appoint at least 1 "moderate" Senator to the super committee so there will be enough votes for entitlement "adjustments". They might be trying that with Pelosi, but my guess is she'd tell them to screw themselves. Look for Reid to appoint 2 solid Dems, but 1 mushy DINO like Kent Conrad who can serve as the 7th vote for entitlement cuts.
