Update: WI Dems Remove Vote Tampering Allegations in Recall Election

Update, 1 a.m. Wednesday: The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has pulled a news release from its website that alleges vote tampering in Waukesha County by the county clerk.

The party chairman, Mike Tate, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that they would not "not pursue questions of irregularities" that was referenced by the Democratic Party in "heat-of-the-moment statements."

**********************************************

Wisconsin Democrats are backing off charges of vote-tampering in the 8th Senate District recall, less than 1-1/2 hours after they leveled those accusations.

"Though we believe that Sandy Pasch was able to battle Alberta Darling to a virtual tie, on her turf, we will not pursue questions of irregularities. Those heat-of-the-moment statements came in light of the uncertainties that arose from a recent election, known too well," state party Chairman Mike Tate said in a prepared statement early Wednesday morning.

Late Tuesday night, party spokesman Graeme Zielinski had accused Waukesha County Kathy Nickolaus of manipulating the Menomonee Falls vote count as Pasch, a Democratic representative from Whitefish Bay, sought to oust Darling, the River Hills Republican senator. When Zielinski spoke, all 10 Menomonee Falls wards in the district were still out, but they soon came in and swung the lead in the race to Darling.

2. I don't like this one bit.
Isn't it up to Pasch? She does not have to concede. She can ask for a recount.

Why are all these Democrats giving up without a fight? I had hopes for Wisconsin. I thought it was the one place where the Democrats had spine!

3. He could be sued for such an allegation, without proof.
I understand why he toned it down.

really are ok, or they are just chicken. I can't rule out "chicken." They have enough of a record with that woman in Waukesha to make the allegations.

8. Keep in mind McCain won that district 65 to 35
against Obama. I'm not saying that there wasn't malfeasance, however.

7. I just read somewhere... that if you deduct ALL the votes from Waukesha County
Darling would still be ahead.

So, let's see.

Total of Wisconsin precincts reporting:
81 of 82 Precincts Reporting - 99%
Darling , Alberta (i) 39,471 (54%)
Pasch , Sandra 34,096 (46%)
--------

Waukesha County
Darling: 9,449
Pasch: 4,767

Totals with Waukesha County deducted
Darling: 39,471 - 9,449 = 30,922
Pasch: 34,096 - 4,767 = 29,329

Since there are more republicans in Waukesha County then democrats - it seems as if there's no way Pasch could have gotten more votes in Waukesha County than Darling did, so/but with those numbers deducted Darling would be still ahead of Pasch.

9. Pasch did very well in this district considering the results are generally 65
percent Republican and 35, for Dems. At least it has been for the past several presidential elections. I think we must have them rattled. ;)
