David Cameron: Today's youth do not have enough respect for the powerful.
"For me, the root cause of this mindless selfishness is the same thing I have spoken about for years.

It is a complete lack of responsibility in parts of our society, people allowed to feel the world owes them something, that their rights outweigh their responsibilities and their actions do not have consequences.
Well, they do have consequences.

We need to have a clearer code of standards and values that we expect people to live by and stronger penalties if they cross the line.

Restoring a stronger sense of responsibility across our society in every town, in every street, in every estate is something I am determined to do."

There was no excuse for the violence, especially directed against innocent people. But then he had to launch into an attack against the poor and the young.

62. That's what I think too. PLUS.........
If he's really serious about "responsibility all across society" let's see how many rich fucking Tory bankers are held responsible. Or for that matter Murdochians in his OWN government. I have a feeling that "responsibility" is only for the poor and working class.

How many Peaceful Protests has he and his government

These things have a progression. Peaceful Protests with
little or no response has consequences over time.

Not to condone but to understand.

Yeah, there's a real "I hope Cameron was looking in the mirror when he said that" quality to his statement, but I have a feeling he and his ruling class comrades see themselves as absolutely blameless in creating this situation.

I guess if you had titled your OP "David Cameron: we need to have a clearer code of standards and values" or "David Cameron: we need stronger penalties" it would not have had quite the same impact.

SO you made something up that he didn't actually say and used that as your subject line.

...I read the entire quote in the OP, applying it in my mind not to the rioters but to the banksters who have brought ruin to so many. Every word of it applied.

Oddly enough, no such statement was ever made about the crimes of the banksters by Cameron and others at his level.

Cause and effect, man, cause and effect.

45. He's got some fucking nerve
The Buller, as it is known to members, was founded in the 19th century as a hunting and cricket club, but is now devoted to drink and dining. Membership is by invitation only and normally limited to alumni of leading public schools. New recruits are secretly elected before being informed of their good fortune by having their college bedroom invaded by way of a window and methodically "trashed".

The club's notorious dinners typically involve members booking a private dining room (under an assumed name) and drinking themselves silly before destroying it elaborately. They wear royal blue tailcoats with ivory lapels, and - having made merry - pride themselves in politely paying the restaurant's owners compensation in high-denomination banknotes. One former Bullingdon member, the journalist Harry Mount, has recalled "being rolled down a hill by a Hungarian count". Boris Johnson once admitted to "dark deeds involving plastic cones and letterboxes".

Yet the "high jinks" that took place on the night the photo was taken (at Canterbury Quad, Christchurch) are up there with the best of them. At some point after the dinner, the group walked through Oxford when one (thought to be Fergusson, though exact recollections differ) threw a plant pot through the window of a restaurant.

The burglar alarm was activated and police descended with sniffer dogs. Six of the group were collared and spent the night at Cowley police station before being released without charge.

More

That's them in their youth, Prime Minister David Cameron was a member of that "club" along with London Mayor Boris Johnson. They used to trash restaurants basically because they could and because of the influence of their friends and families they would suffer zero consequences.

Destroy someone's business or property? If you're rich enough then it's just youthful hi-jinx.

54. Interesting how many of them have gone into Finance
especially given the finance world's culpability in trashing so many nations' economies, followed by the bank bailouts and the the finance industries strong push for austerity for most of us (while they rake in huge profits from that process and the raiding of social programs and privatization of public assets that comes with it).

Here's a labeled pic:

(1) the Hon. Edward Sebastian Grigg, the heir to Baron Altrincham of Tormarton and current chairman of Credit Suisse (UK)(formerly a partner and managing director at Goldman Sachs)

(2) David Cameron

(3) Ralph Perry Robinson, a former child actor, designer, furniture-maker

(4) Ewen Fergusson, son of the British ambassador to France, Sir Ewen Fergusson and now at City law firm Herbert Smith

(5) Matthew Benson, the heir to the Earldom of Wemyss and March

(6) Sebastian James, the son of Lord Northbourne, a major landowner in Kent

(7) Jonathan Ford, the-then president of the club, a banker with Morgan Grenfell

(8) Boris Johnson, the-then president of the Oxford Union, now Lord Mayor of London

9) Harry Eastwood, the investment fund consultant

British Conservatives (BNP-Lite) have always looked down upon the working class. Ugly thugs, just like the Republicans.
These young working class people DO NOT HAVE WORK! There are few jobs available for them to make a living. That is what the working class is angry about.
British Conservatives (as well as EVERY symbol that embodies them) are absolutely infuriating.
