Jerry Brown Vetoes Legislation Requiring State Agencies to Post Job Vacancies Online
California Governor Jerry Brown vetoed legislation Monday that would have required state departments and agencies to post all examination and job vacancies on the State Personnel Board's website, The Sacramento Bee reports.
Brown vetoed the legislation because he said the measure might place employees in jobs they’re not qualified for and "may delay the layoff process and reduce the anticipated savings from future layoffs."
Along with the mandate for online posting of all examinations and job vacancies, the measure, known as Assembly Bill 1395, would have required the names of laid-off employees in narrowly-defined, department-specific job classifications to be placed on employment lists for comparable statewide classifications.
Assembly Bill 1395 passed 37-0 in the Senate and 77-0 in the Assembly.
According to The Sacramento Bee, Assemblyman Sandré Swanson, D-Alameda, said Assembly Bill 1395 would level the playing field for laid-off state workers who sought other government jobs.
