Or would it even matter who was elected President, the deficits would still be just as high or higher?

I think so.

It is very possible that we could have slipped into a depression after the collapse of the banks and the stock market. The unemployment rate could have been much higher. And so could have been the deficits.

With the low tax rates and the huge outlays for the safety net, we are lucky that the deficits are only $1 trillion.

McCain would not have signed off on the stimulus bill and the odds are that the economy would have been much worse. It is not possible to prove a negative but I seriously doubt the deficits would have been lower under any President, Democratic or Republican.

Just my opinion.

6. The majority of the debt is from George W. Bush's watch...
Yes, it would have been this high...it's clear this is Dumbo's Debt, although the Dems have been eerily quiet about that.

7. McCain doesn't have the temperment or the endurance required for the job.
He'd be dead by now, we'd be dealing with pResident Palin, the deficit and debt would have ballooned as the Republics went on a spending spree and invaded another half dozen countries.

Stop trying to give your fellow DUers nightmares.
