Sherrod Brown: Portman selection was 'right choice'

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) praised Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) selection Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) for the "supercommittee" on Wednesday.

"Minority Leader McConnell was right to select Senator Portman as one of the three Republican Senators for the deficit reduction committee," Brown said in a statement. "Rob has shown a willingness to find common ground by looking at both tax reform and spending cuts in order to reduce the deficit."

In the past Portman has called for tax reform but not through raising taxes.

2. Good to hear this from Brown.

In the past, Portman's been a capable/informed technocrat. He knows how the system works. Not a flamer, imo.

3. Yeah, but

While I appreciate hearing from Sherrod on this (much respect), I doubt this guy is the equivalent weak link to Baucus to keep the 7-5 majority rules at bay.
