I'm not expert and I can only talk from personal experience but even Doctors who are working for someone else seem to set their own hours and really don't have a boss. I think thats one of the major benefits of going to med school.

founded in 1847 is for all intents and purposes a union. And there is nothing to stop doctors from forming a union.

4. Just like the Chamber of Commerce is a union..

They organize for their own benefit. Yes, the AMA is a very powerful union.

8. Sorry no link

This came up today in a discussion with an attorney friend.
She said that docs could not form unions for collective bargaining due to antitrust issues.
I just had never heard or thought about it.
But I realized I had never heard of a physician's union.
Just seeking some info.

11. I believe the reason you have never heard of a physician's union is because

the vast majority of physicians are SELF-EMPLOYED. Unions are formed to protect worker (EMPLOYEE) rights against employer abuses.

The AMA even limits how many people will study medicine.

10. OK I did some research

Looks somewhat convoluted.
Some employed docs can sometimes.
Govt employed and private practice cannot apparently.

That seems to be a general outlook.
I guess I need to talk to someone who can explain it better than the sources I looked up.
