Drought deepens in South; Texas driest in century
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/11/us-drought-idUSTRE77A3P120110811

(Reuters) - A devastating drought deepened over the last week in many areas, spreading through more of the Plains and going into the Midwest as triple-digit temperatures baked already thirsty crops and livestock.

The Corn Belt states of South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana saw drought develop quickly as the important corn-growing region got only spotty rainfall amid the high heat, according to the weekly U.S. Drought Monitor, produced by a consortium of national climate experts.

Abnormal dryness intensified to moderate drought over the last week, according to the report.

Texas remained the epicenter of unprecedented drought, with climate data showing the state suffering its driest 10 months ever in over a century of data.

1. God's punishment for Rick Perry's blasphemous prayer rally!
He is he the Harlot of Babylon! I mean, just look at how vain he is about his hair--it's a dead giveaway!

2. Nah, it's his very lound "NO" to Perry praying for rain in April.
I hate to see what's going to happen to Texas for the Prayerapalooza escapade.

3. "Global Warming" Is NOT The Answer; Prayer Is
If Republicans had their way, hospitals would still be drilling holes in sick people's heads to let the evil spirits out.

9. Whenever they talk about "wasting money" on environmental concerns, they never seem to consider this

The deadly drought and triple-digit temperatures have broken numerous records and left the southern Plains and Mississippi Valley struggling to meet demand for power and water, while causing billions of dollars in damage to crops and livestock.

Thanks for the thread, xchrom.

11. Well, I keep reminding other Texans that 'rain' is a four-letter word.
Actually, I think that all this begging, or praying, for rain is a mistake. It only encourages the weather to kick us in the teeth some more by continuing drought and very-high temperatures. The answer is to act like we don't care; and then maybe the weather would lose interest or focus, and just rain because that's one of the things it tends to do. ;-)

13. Holee shit - and Republicons still lying about this
and sopping up the Fox and Rush Limbaugh bullshit -- so they block any frikking action to address these massive problems.

Republicons are destroying out whole freaking planet with their idiotic refusal to face facts.

14. Hmmm... it's almost like Rick Perry's prayer service
was just a bunch of idiots talking to themselves and not doing anything to solve the problem. Who could have guessed?

15. All kidding aside, this is not just Texas or any of the states effected
directly. This is the Bread Basket of the world and we are all going to suffer. Anyone who is not stocking up for next year is not paying attention.

on a serious note....it's not at all funny..I had no idea pipes would be crushed when earth dries up...and house foundations shift so the owners have to use soakers to water the foundations......I feel for all the citizens experiencing the blazing temps this summer.
